Need a new one to mount in the bedroom (bada bing). Looking at 50 inch plasma 720P by Panny for $800 vs. 42-47 inch LCD 1080P by Vizio for about same $$. Definitely stay under $1k. I don't think the 720v1080 is big deal myself and only the reflective glass on the plasma is giving me caution right now. Thoughts?

Do you regularly watch TV in the bedroom when there is a lot of light on, and is that light directly behind you? That's really the only time you have issue with glare on a plasma. I've had both, a Panny 58" plasma and a Samsung 52" LCD with matte screen. Both were in use in my living room for a while. I have a 1-story open floor plan so there is light coming in from everywhere. I have 3 large windows directly to the side of the seating position as well as a bunch of large windows almost directly behind me.
The panny had too much glare during the day, but was money at night. The Samsung has a matte screen which helped a lot on the glare. It is still there, it's just a big blur instead of a perfect reflection which is much less annoying. Of course, the LCD isn't quite as sharp or as good with blacks, but it's a small difference.
I only watch TV in the bedroom at night so it is pitch dark 99% of the time when I am watching it. I have a 32 inch plasma in a kid's room and it is awesome except for the occasional all-black scene when I can see my reflection. Though, that may not happen given I would be mounting this one on the wall about 6 to 7 feet high.

I am also looking for a 42" for the bedroom wall. I for sure am going with LCD and was looking at Vizio because you can get 1080p at Wallyword for under $700.
BB has Panny and LG 42 inch LCD with 1080p for $700 right now. That might sway me to down in size, but up in quality.....appropriate for bedroom talk.
Some of the Vizio LCD's score pretty well on image quality. Though the best are the Samsungs. Unfortunately, they're not cheap. The plasmas are all around better picture quality if the room is moderately dark and are considerably less expensive.
Plasma is almost a no-brainer for a bedroom where it will see minimal use in a dark environment.

I used to sell TV's back when Plasmas and LCD's were the talk of the town, and I still keep abreast of what's new. That said, I'd throw my vote in for the plasma on two accounts: better picture on plasma, and I'm a fan of Panasonic's overall quality.

A 720p plasma has a better picture than a 1080p LCD?
Plasmas used to have better black levels than LCDs, but I'm under the impression that it's been resolved in the newer sets.
Agreed on the relative quality between a Panasonic and a Vizio, though.

I don't the 720 v 1080 means much right now...maybe in the future or will oversized screen sizes, but not an issue at 50 inches or less.

It's true that LCD's have really closed the gap, but Plasmas still retain the best picture quality (of the 2) in darkened rooms.
Also, 1080 vs 720 isn't much of a difference unless you're watching BluRay, as most of the content is either 720p or 1080i. What is your viewing distance? If it's less than 9-10 ft, the pixel structure of 720P on a 50" screen may be visible.
