    scab derby: the scientific method

July 3, feeling far too cavalier on my newly re-tuned bicycle i popped a curb and ate the road. i bruised a rib, tore off my left big toe-nail (wearing flip flops), and earned a set of jewel-like road scabs on my left lower leg. seeing that the scabs were of nearly equal fantastic color and "burger meat" proto pus gusto....i decided to make this week of sitting on my *** interesting.

on scab #1: i decided to treat with generic brand neosphorin (or however you spell it)

on scab #2: i decided to treat with tea tree oil mixed with olive oil.

both applications were applied 3-5 times a day with a q-tip.

at day 8 of application....the tea tree "unguent" scab looks far more healthy. the skin under the remaining scabbous material is normal looking and proper color. scab crust is not long for this world. meanwhile, the neo-sph application leaves the scabs soft on top but no underskin looking as good. kind of dried underneath.

from now on, i'm going the tea tree oil and olive oil route.

    FYI.

I'd quit wearing flip flops while riding.

that was just icing on the cake. the toe nail thing, while kind of gross at the time, is livable. i'll still ride with the flops after the toe heals.

Get some protection...here are some motorcycle sandals. The "toe bumper" might help on a bicycle as well

What was your mix on the tea tree oil / olive oil?

nothing exact....something like 1/4 TTO to 3/4 OO. i mixed about an oz. total in a plastic water cup. and would replenish as necessary. cost-wise, the 1 oz tube of generic neosporin was about 4$. a 1 oz. bottle of TTO was about 12$. i've used about half the neo and less than a 1/3 of the TTO. all things being equal, i'd say cost is a wash and the TTO has more uses, like it's good on your gums and can be used as a topical.

Flip flops on a motorcycle = really bad idea. Road rash from the foot up over the ankle is a biatch. A bug or rock hitting your bare foot at 45 or so is worse. Plus, the pic has the gear shaft protection on the right foot. Motorcycle gear shafts are pretty much universally operated by the left foot.

This thread is worthless without pics.
    I got a bad mustache
    a recurring rash
and not a lot of cash.
I spend it on my stash.
