Maybe some fisherman ate a bottom feeder with the ring inside it last week, got drunk, took a dump in the lake, and the bass ate the ring on the way down.
Maybe a mermaid was a drunk, ate her pet bottomfeeder with the ring in it, took a merdump and the bass ate the ring turd.
