A Lady Named Irena Sendler

There recently was the death of a 98-year-old lady named Irena Sendler.

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.

She had an ulterior motive...

She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German).

Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she also carried in the back of her truck a Burlap sack, (for larger kids).

She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.

The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time and course of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.

She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs and arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.

After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it, and reunited the family.

Most, of course, had been gassed.

Those kids she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize....

She LOST.

Not trying to take anything away from Irena Sendler, who is clearly a hero, but in what way did her actions meet the criteria of the Nobel Prize, which is awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

If global warming is real, *and* the sea level rises projected occur, there's going to be war. Tons of it. Some of it probably nuclear.

If it's real *and* Gore's awareness campaign can reduce the severity or prevent those sea level rises, then uh, yeah, that qualifies.

Dude has a major hand in the first Israeli-Arab peace accords, which not coincidentally forged an actual lasting peace between Egypt and Israel. Remember Egypt? What was at the time the most powerful military (other than Israel) in the region? He's done more to ensure the survival of Israel than any American president before or since.

Egypt kept getting their asses handed to them, anyways. They probably wanted an excuse to end the fighting because their collective butthole was sore from the total assraping they kept getting.

The announcement of the award came only hours after the U.S. House and Senate gave President George W. Bush authorization to use military force against Iraq in order to enforce U.N. Security Council resolutions requiring that Baghdad give up weapons of mass destruction.

In an interview with CNN, Carter declined to address the situation with Iraq, saying instead he would rather focus on the peace prize.

Asked if the selection of the former president was a criticism of Bush, Gunnar Berge, head of the Nobel committee, said: "With the position Carter has taken on this, it can and must also be seen as criticism of the line the current U.S. administration has taken on Iraq."

Anwar Sadat did. Egypt and the Arab League at large did not.

Negotiations broke down multiple times, and but for Jimmy Carter's efforts, the Egyptians and the Israelis would have walked away on multiple occassions.

Jimmy inherited that situation. His handling of the hostage situation was bad, but his ability to handle the larger situation was limited unless we was willing to risk conventional war with the Soviets.

yeah let's blame Carter for Ike getting snowballed by the Brits into taking the mess they created off their hands by using the spectre of Communism. I know, let's blame Carter again for France manipulating our absolute fear of communism into involvement in Vietnam.
