Sooner Hockey Coaching Change

It will be announced officially later this week, but Tom Murphy has replaced Larry Donovan as head coach. This will allow Coach Donovan to spend more time watching his son Matt, who is playing again for Cedar Rapids this year, is committed to the University of Denver for 2009, and was a 4th round selection by the New York Islanders this summer (and the first native born/raised Oklahoman selected in the draft).

Coach Donovan will remain GM and serve as an assistant coach. Conventional wisdom says that this succession was anticipated to eventually take place when Murphy was brought on to the staff a few months ago, but now it is apparent the timeline has been moved up.
