U guys hear the legislature is looking to adopt an offishul Oklahoma rock song?

See, they don't have enough to do.

anyhoo, the rulz say they song has to be written or performed by an Okie or mention Oklahoma in the lyric.

I voted for the Gap Band's "You Dropped a Bomb on Me"

You know, it makes perfect sense to nominate Reba, Vince or Garth for the state rock song.

The very concept of an "official" rock song is absurd; rock cannot be official !!!
Plus that list of nominated songs stretches the definition of rock beyond recognition.
I am finally convinced that the world has completely stopped making any sense at all.

But wait, we're talking about a legislature...
    ahhhh, never mind
You tell me it's the institution. Well, you know, you'd better free your mind instead.

I'm going with Hosty's "Oklahoma Breakdown" as my darkhorse favorite. But of course, some sorry-*ss POS "new country pop" crap will win.

It's country, but Jason Boland's "If I Ever Get Back to Oklahoma" is a good tune.
"The choices we discern as having been made in the Constitutional Convention impose burdens on governmental proceses that often seem clumsy, inefficient, even unworkable, but those hard choices were consciously made by men who had lived under a form of government that permitted arbitrary governmental acts to go unchecked." INS v. Chadha, 462 U.S. 919 (1983) (Burger, C.J.)

Well, you're the first to get the title right, but you got the act wrong. Hoyt Axton was an Oklahoman, so he gets the nod over the guys who covered the song he wrote.
    Well, crap.

Actually it can only be written or performed by an Okie. Having Oklahoma in the lyric is inconsequential.

And I think it's a great thing to: a) promote the Oklahoma History Center's upcoming exhibit on Oklahoma Rock 'n' Roll and b) change the general perception that Oklahoma has two kinds of music: country and western.

Between this, the Oklahoma Creativity Project, OKFMI, the great work of the Oklahoma Film & Music Office and events like DFest and Norman Music Festival, there's a lot of forward momentum being made in regards to Oklahoman music.
