Were the eagles involved? That whole episode would have been a lot shorter if the eagles had just done their job at the start and flown Frodo to Mount Doom. But, no. They piddle around until Frodo and Sam are about to get fried by lava and pyroclastic flows and then decide to go pick them up. Lazy birds!
