Based on my predictions, OU gets the 4th seed whether we go 9-7 or 8-8. The big game in that equation is us beating A+M-- I kept that the same in both projections.
This is a fun toy.
Crazy log jam like I've never seen since the Big XII began.
I did a scenario where we went 8-8 and everything else went against us except for totally unrealistic games, like OSU beating Texas would be bad for us but there is no way they go to austin and win. Otherwise, if it came down to one of our competitors versus a team we aren't competing with, I gave the game to our competitor. The worst we finished was 5th. I feel real good that at 8-8 we'll still make the tourney. But let's win tonight and get that much closer to 9-7 so it's a non-issue.Originally Posted by OUSKINS
You're right about that crazy jam after the top three in the Big 12. This conference season has been full of surprises:
-A&M might play themselves out of an NCAA bid (their remaining games are all ones that they could lose) after their strong start.
-OU is a near lock for the NCAA tournament even after losing Griffin for a few games and Longar playing with an injury. Capel as done an amazing job.
-Baylor is on the cusp on an NCAA tournament bid.
-OSU has a small chance of playing in a post-season tournament (NIT) after a crappy start. I was guilty of saying "stick a fork in us" as recently as a couple weeks ago.
The only problem with predicting who makes the NCAA tournament after the first three Big 12 teams is that, as far as I know, no Big 12 team has ever received an at-large bid with an 8-8 conference record. Heck, KSU had an overall record last year of 23-12, 10-6 in the Big 12 (4th place), and still got snubbed. The 'problem' was that their RPI was 56. A good barometer of getting into the NCAA tournament is having an RPI of less than 50. Here are the current RPI's of teams in the Big 12:
4 - Texas……… 24-4
9 - Kansas……. 24-3
27 - Oklahoma.. 18-9
33 - Baylor…….. 17-8
43 - Kansas St….. 18-9
46 - Texas A&M.. 20-7
------------------------
61 - Texas Tech .. 15-11
75 - Okla St…… 15-12
97 - Missouri….. 15-13
105 - Nebraska….. 16-9
140 - Iowa State…. 14-13
161 - Colorado…. 10-16
As there is a good chance we'll see two to four 8-8 teams, it will be interesting to see how many of them make the tournament (if any).
