Back from watching all four semifinal games at the Sequoyah County Tournament. A couple of big developments on the boys' side:
Sallisaw beat Roland, 38-34, breaking the Rangers' five-year stranglehold on winning the SCT title.
Muldrow upset top-seeded Vian, 57-56. Bulldogs were up by 15 in the second half before Wolverines rallied. Fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Muldrow took the lead in the final seconds and Vian missed a long-range 3 at the buzzer.
On the girls' side, Sallisaw beat Muldrow by eight and Roland beat Vian by 11.
So in Saturday's championship games, it will be Sallisaw and Roland for the girls title and Sallisaw and Muldrow for the boys. Interesting fact: Sallisaw has never won the SCT, boys or girls, even though it's the biggest school in the county and the tournament is in its ninth season.

Well, Sallisaw captured both SCT titles for the first time tonight in two well-played ballgames. The Sallisaw girls beat Roland by eight, but it was much closer than the final score indicated, and the Sallisaw boys beat Muldrow by four. Game was tied in the closing seconds and Muldrow had the ball, but Sallisaw sophomore Matt Oberste, also the team's quarterback, stole the ball and was fouled going in for a layup. Hit both free throws with about three seconds left then Sallisaw intercepted a long inbounds pass and that set up two more foul shots.

Now, it's on to the LeFlore County Tournament, which starts a week from Monday.

Does Kelvin Jamison still coach the Sallisaw girls? Before he went to Sallisaw he was Gum Springs' Head ball coach.

Does Kelvin Jamison still coach the Sallisaw girls? Before he went to Sallisaw he was Gum Springs' Head ball coach.

No, not anymore. He did coach the current group of seniors the year they won four or five games as freshmen. He's still the golf coach at Sallisaw, though.
