ORU Could Be in Some Trouble

The dirt and gossip should be fun to follow.

The summary of the report in the lawsuit alleges:

    • One of Richard and Lindsay Roberts' children vandalized and removed athletic department equipment from ORU property.
    • University and ministries employees regularly do the homework of the Roberts' children.
    • ORU paid $29,411 for one Roberts daughter to vacation with friends in Florida and the Bahamas and use the ORU jet for transportation.
    • Lindsay Roberts routinely uses ministries security personnel during personal vacations.
    • Lindsay Roberts awarded 13 non-need-based scholarships to friends of her children, two of whom had test scores below ORU's admission requirement; and more.

Re: ORU Could Be in Some Trouble

It pains me to say this, cause I know a few ORU grads who are amazing people, but i've heard less than great things about Richard Roberts in the past. And this kind of thing doesn't surprise me.

I am getting so sick of Church leaders betraying people like this, if true. I know they are human, but come on.

ORU would be a much better place if the Roberts family would step aside and let the school function on its own in my opinion.

And if they bulldozed the campus and made it look like a real college, that would help even more!!

Why is the filing of a lawsuit news?

I wonder how the news media got wind that a petition was being filed.

    ORU. Heh.

Back when we were in high school, my (now) wife's parents tried to talk my wife into applying to ORU. She refused and when they asked her why she said that the application makes you sign an affadavit that you never drink, lie, steal, etc. When my wife's parents asked her why that was a problem, she said "Well, I lie!"

I still crack up about that.

My little brother is a philosophy major at ORU.

Problem is, they just the dropped philosophy program

So, he has to either switch majors or switch universities.

The little dude has brains, and a leg that could have gotten him a d1 scholly kicking pigskins through uprights had he stuck to it.

I rememeber hearing folks tell how Oral use to decide how much of the donations to keep...

He's draw a circle around all the dough and throw it all up in the air...whatever God wanted he took....the rest went to ORU.

Want to hear a wild-*** conspiracy theory? The Powers That Be think ORU's primo spread of land has great river development prospects. Also, events that currently book the Mabee Center might prefer the BOK Cinnamon Roll - if there was no Mabee Center, that is. Take it for what it's worth.

Dude, the Mabee Center is a dumphole. You don't need black helicopters to convince people to book the BOK Center.

Oh, and ORU's "primo spread of land" doesn't have great river development prospects due to, you know, not being on the river and stuff.

That's why I didn't say river-front development, genius. It's only a block or two away, anyway. The point that I am making is that if bad things start happening to ORU, it might not be GOD pulling the strings, but the GOB network instead.

The ORU land would be a great place for a Walmart IMO.

The only thing between them and the river is, a major arterial street, Wal-Mart, some apartments, another major arterial street and a giant Casino.

    Am I forgetting anything?

I think there's some park area too. So basically it's only a mile away from being river property.

    You forgot something.

    Global warming.

15 years, that'll be riferfront property.

Block or two, over half a mile, what's the difference?

Maybe the whole joint will be condemned and taken by emiment domain. I could really get behind that.

Oral's hands give me the creeps anyway.

Being an ORU grad, I am, of course biased. I am not much of a Richard
fan though. ORU is a great school, lots of great people and beautiful
wimmens. Sure, you sign an honor code, but there were and are ways
around it. My senior year the dudes next door kept Moosehead on ice
the whole year. It's a not a perfect school, but that axiomatic. Which
one is? Homey, one point, Jesus once said, "which evah of you has it
all together, throw the first rock." My paraphrase. Those televangelists
will have lots to answer for, as will we all. ORU does much more good
than bad in the long run. heh!

Yeah, ORU does some great mission work, and the people who I know from there are genuinely good Christian folk doing their best to serve our Lord.

Because of that, I hope this suit doesn't hurt the school much, and serves to remind people of the corrupting influence money and power can have on anyone.

I have no problem with the institution per se. I have no problem with evangelism. Heck, I'm a Baptist for crying out loud and that's numba one on our agenda. What I have a problem with is TV preachers who poach old ladies into giving them their Social Security check so said TV preacher and family can live like a Turkish pasha. I'm fairly sure the Big Guy would not approve of that either.

I'm not saying preachers aren't entitled to a living wage. They are. But this sort alleged of excess is over the top.

If these allegations are proven, I should think the Roberts' family will have some 'splainin' to do.
