are we looking for any steals? Is Mahoney gonna jump ship? What positions are most needed other then WR? Do we risk losing anybody on signing day other then Mahoney? Will Reuben Randle pull a Terrell Pryor? Any sleepers?
I thought Mahoney and RJ Washington were very tight! A&M doesn't have a scholly for him so I think he sticks with his commitment to OU. I think Reuben will sign on signing day. Only to avoid in state hate since he will be leaving the Buyou. I would think we could always use OL or DL prospects Pearle Graves and Terry Hawthorne could be steals!
Mahoney is going to visit Tech this weekend. A&M says they have room for him. The OU coaches have told him good luck. Mahoney is gone.
Mahoney probably won't have the grades to attend OU. He's A&M, Tech or JUCO-bound. Basically, it all comes down to six guys for OU: DE Jarrett Brown (great chance) DT Pearlie Graves (good chance) DB Josh Evans (decent chance) WR Terry Hawthorne (outside shot) WR Reuben Randle (outside shot) WR Tyrece Gaines (in case)
Texas A&M alum: A whole lot? Ok, how much money ya want, son? Texas alum: A whole lot? Ok, how much hugging from Mack do ya want, son? Texas Tech alum: A whole lot? Arggggh, he's a pirate at heart. Arrrrrrrggghh. This is why Oklahoma > Texas. Oklahoma State alum: A whole lot? Well, we are a team on the rise and we've won 10 games out of our past 14! Make that OU > Texas.
uhm is a&m easier to get in to for athletes than OU? because it is a much more highly ranked academic institute in just about all areas...
I don't think it is any more difficult in getting into one school or the other. Mahoney is a grade risk. Maybe OU felt his chances of qualifying was so low that they should free up the scholorship for someone else. A&M needs LBs in the worst way and is more willing to give him a spot and hopes he gets in.
Mahoney is a decent player and he's a good friend of Washington's but he's not a great athlete and if OU feels they can get a great athlete then they'll go another direction.
Mahoney commits to us in April and OU decides in January that he is just not good enough? I trust Stoops and Co. would not pull this crap on a kid.
I agree on the grade issue. I just wanted to clarify that the Sooner staff would not just dump a kid who had been committed for months unless it has to do with grades or a change in the kids attitude (stupid videos, legal issues etc.).
more like the facts? A&M is definitely harder to get into than OU, and it's academic departments are more highly ranked nationally.
with regard to football players, OU and all of the texas schools have the exact same requirements. the one major difference is that neither OU or Texas take partial qualifiers anymore. OU because they got burned by memphis trezevant doctoring transcripts and texas for their stance against partials in the first place. based on mahoney's comments in the other thread (2.6 gpa to be eligible) he is looking at being a partial (it would mean he has the GPA but not the test score).
