That's definitely a good one for bands that are still around making albums. Tweedy is the man. Now if the Pixies would only make a new album....
Listen to PJs "Live at Benaroya Hall".... I think what Mike McCreedy does with a guitar on Black at this show should be illegal in all 50 states. And Puerto Rico.
True story. I haven't read this thread - only the last page. However, The Dixie Dregs would be tough to beat if we're judging the band simply on talent. If we're talking "present day" bands then I don't have an opinion. They all pretty much suck to me.
You guess of Grand Funk on the first page was better. Not that I'm claiming to know much about The Dixie Dregs.
:O Next time I should look at the first page and see that the thread is over 2 years old! I do like me some Grand Funk, but for sheer musicianship, check out the Dregs. Not real easy to listen to (no commercial sound here), but the boys are lights out on their instruments. No vocals either. I'm thinking early 80's maybe?
Without Eddie Vedder's weird note jumping singing, there'd be no Dave Matthews. That's why I wish there were no Eddie Vedder.
Without Eddie Vedder, there would be no Eddie Vedder fans. That's why I wish there were no Eddie Vedder.
it's either: Skynard CCR the Stooges (props to GDC) Velvet Underground the minutemen sonic youth Buddy Holly and the Crickets Allman Bros pixes Band of Gypsies Bill Haley and the Comets it ain't PJ.
if it were me: i'd vote for either CCR, VU, or the stooges as being quintessentially americana at a place in time. or whatever the hell the Woody Guthrie is doing these days.
The Stooges would be right up there, also. And CCR if it hadn't been for "Heard it through the grapevine"
