One of my many classes this semester is Cinematic Theology. It is a class where we discuss possible theologies (hidden, obvious, or under the surface) in movies. Basically our project is to choose a movie and present it in front of the class and discuss the theology of the movie. The class is, what we call, a block class. Which means the class meets once a week and is about 2 and a half hours long. Next week we are watching Bruce Almighty. We will also be watching Signs some time this semester. Sounds like this will be a fun class. I'm thinking about my movie that I'm going to present. I may choose Castaway. But I'm not sure yet. What would you suggest. (No pron, of course) Discuss...
Groundhog Day (no joke) Jonah Goldberg wrote a pretty decent paper on the subject once for National Review. http://www.nationalreview.com/flashback/goldberg200602020835.asp
On the Waterfront is an oldy but goodie and lots of religious symbolism....the more modern one is definately the matrix...it is the story of John the Baptist
Someone else has already claimed the Matrix. Groundhog Day is one of the films we briefly discussed today in class.
texas chain saw massacre , last house on the left, on the softer side American Graffiti , lot of stuff going on in that movie.
as much as I like O' Brother, there is too much bad language in the film. To at least use for my class.
