Anyone know where I can get any good home made tamales. We always have them for Christmas and don't have any lined up yet. We usually get 5 or 6 dozen.
ever tried making tamales at home? Do it once and your local Tacqueria's pricing will suddenly start to look pretty damn reasonable.
What happens if you buy them in a store, but they were made by a steely eyed matriarch out back, in the early morning twilight, aided only by her achingly beautiful twin daughters patting them out rhythmically against their naked thighs, all the while their hearts burning for the gringo who could take them away from all of this and who would appreciate their tamales for the rest of his life? What then?
What if Senorita Makes em at home then Jose peddles em out of his truck on the street corner? Slippery slope my friend.
Ifn yer in El Paso, TX, go to Grandma's, over by Lee Trevino Mall. You'll buy 'em in a store but swear they were made at home. Keep in mind this was 27 years ago so Grandma's prolly ded....
They are somewhat labor intensive to make, but if you can find a Mexican market that will sell you the masa prepared for tamales, it's not that bad. The good part is the quality control on the filling. You can take care not to put a big chunk of gristle in your masa. And you can get the liquidity and picante of the filling juuussssstttttt right. The down side is if they damned good you want to comer mucho and they aren't exactly health food.
