That was certainly a contributor as was GATT. Now, somebody remind me who was President when both of these measures were enacted.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Free_Trade_Agreement Signed under Bush 1. I blame Clinton for not killing it.
It was ratified under Clinton but negotiated and ceremonially signed under George HW Bush in December of 1992.
Read just fine, thanks. I'm just wondering what your point is. You keep bringing up Boosh 1 when Clinton signed it into law...not ceremonially, but legally.
The pubs are the party of free trade. Clinton was a liberal pub. He had more support from congressional pubs than donks on NAFTA/ The liberal union a$$-kissing donks were anti-NAFTA. The Senate vote was 61 to 38. As was the case earlier in the House, Republicans supplied the most support, accounting for 34 of the favorable votes to 27 from the Democrats. Some of y'all are in bed with Barbara Boxer on this one. She voted against it.
I always assumed it was a Clinton deal until i read about it during this thread. Thanks for educating me right wing folks. I can blame bush1 for it.
So that relieves Clinton of his role in that fiasco? BTW, are you guys condemning Obama for trying to ram through the new Asian free trade agreement?
As I said, my criticism of him is still there because he didn't kill it. I assumed he was responsible for it. Asian thing: I'm agin it. I don't understand why. I'd reach out to my Rep, Markwayne Mullin who will surely be against it as well. He'd be against creating free energy from desalenating salt water if Obama was for it.
No, it doesn't. NAFTA was a bipartisan attack on the working class of this country. And of Mexico for that matter. If you hate Mexican immigration, vote to kill NAFTA. A thousand times Yes! He's lying to us all, and setting up his post-presidency being supported by Wall Street.
trade agreement threadjack Lots of discussion about who to blame for NAFTA. That implies you're against it. Was anybody for it at the time? Is anybody for TPP now? If so, why?
