NORMAN – The jury is still out in many ways, but the Sooners’ 49-21 defeat of UCLA on Saturday afternoon on Owen Field demonstrated that OU’s defense may actually be back. The first team defense held the Bruins to seven points before a couple of garbage time touchdowns late in the game, shut them down on the ground, and spent all day in the UCLA backfield. NORMAN - Military service academies are menaces. Really, when you think about it, that’s exactly what they’re supposed to be. After all, the primary purpose of the military academies is to train their students to kill people and break things. And so it was that Army, fulfilling its core purpose as a menace, took the Sooners to the brink Saturday night before falling 28-21 in overtime.

NORMAN – The Sooners bounced back from the struggle against Army yesterday with a 66-33 blowout of Baylor. Kyler Murray did not start due to being late for practice on Friday, but made up for it with an incredible performance backing up Austin Kendall. Kendall came out after the first series, and Murray then proceeded to go 17-21 for 441 yards and six TDs. His four incompletions consisted of three drops and a ball caught out of bounds. DALLAS, TEXAS - They say the best defense is a good offense. That was proven by Army a couple of weeks ago. However, in the Sooners’ case, the best defense is an average defense, or even a below average defense. A below average defense would have seen the Sooners win Saturday against Texas. FORT WORTH, TEXAS – It always seems that the Sooners have to lose a game to start playing their best. I hope that what we saw in Fort Worth wasn’t their best, but it was better than we have seen recently, particularly on defense. NORMAN – Bill Snyder said that Kansas State wanted to do to the Sooners this week what Army did earlier in the season – play physical and defend the explosive Sooner offense by keeping them off the field. LUBBOCK, TX – All anyone could seem to talk about leading up to the Sooners’ game with Texas Tech was what happened here two years ago and that ridiculous 66-59 OU win. This game wasn’t that. It was weird in its own way, as night game in Lubbock often are, but it ended like almost all of them do, with a Sooner win. This time, it wasn’t quite 66-59, but 51-46 worked well enough in a game that, hopefully, won’t be remembered much past Sunday morning.

NORMAN – Same story, same result. Same as last year and so many years before. The Sooners and OSU locked in a tight battle that always comes out in our favor, ín defiance of the law of averages.
