The Road Warrior Report - Iowa State Review - September 15, 2018

AMES, IOWA – Critical, stupid penalties. A third-quarter fumble deep in Iowa State territory that turned what would have been a double-digit lead into a tie game. These are the things that helped turn the Sooners’ loss last year against the Cyclones. These things also happened today in Ames. But today, unlike last season, a replay review negated the Sooners’ critical third-quarter fumble. So instead of ISU having the ball and a chance to tie, the Sooners...

STILLWATER, OK – It was bound to happen eventually. The law of averages always said that the Sooners couldn’t win the Big 12 every year forever. The same law said that no matter the dominance overall in the series, Oklahoma State does manage to win one now and again. And so it came to pass that the Sooners’ regular season ended Saturday night in Stillwater with a 37-33 loss to OSU, who will play Baylor next Saturday for the conference championship.

LUBBOCK, TX – All anyone could seem to talk about leading up to the Sooners’ game with Texas Tech was what happened here two years ago and that ridiculous 66-59 OU win. This game wasn’t that. It was weird in its own way, as night game in Lubbock often are, but it ended like almost all of them do, with a Sooner win. This time, it wasn’t quite 66-59, but 51-46 worked well enough in a game that, hopefully, won’t be remembered much past Sunday morning.

ARLINGTON, TX – It was the toughest of the 10 Big 12 Championship Games the Sooners have won, but OU outlasted Baylor in overtime 30-23 in JerryWorld Saturday to secure their fifth straight Big 12 Championship. The win, coupled with Oregon’s rout of Utah Friday night and LSU’s rout of Georgia on Saturday afternoon, left the Sooners solidly in the College Football Playoff field for the third straight season....

    DALLAS, TEXAS
    – They said the Cotton Bowl would show whether Oklahoma’s defense was really improved or whether they had been feasting on inferior opponents. Nine sacks, 15 total tackles for loss, and a defensively dominating 34-27 win later, it can safely be said that the Sooner defense is much improved. The score doesn’t really reflect the domination the Sooners displayed in this game, particularly in the first half. If not for a pair of red zone...

STILLWATER – The Sooners played their most complete game since the West Virginia game last night in Stillwater, pounding the Aggy into a fine paste in the second half in a 34-16 win that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The Sooner defense held OSU to their fewest points in the series since shutting them out entirely in 2009.

Parnell Motley was the defensive star, with a fumble recovery and an interception, and another interception that was...

The Road Warrior Report - Iowa State Review - October 4, 2020

    ISU score 2020.jpg

AMES, IOWA – The year was 1960. Dwight Eisenhower was in his final months as President of the United States. On November 5, Iowa State defeated Oklahoma in Ames, 10-6. Three days later, John F. Kennedy would be elected President.

And, until Saturday night, that November day 60 years ago was the last time the Sooners tasted defeat in Ames. But all things must come to an end, like a 60-year streak, and hopes of a fourth consecutive CFP appearance – and...

NORMAN - Military service academies are menaces. Really, when you think about it, that’s exactly what they’re supposed to be. After all, the primary purpose of the military academies is to train their students to kill people and break things. And so it was that Army, fulfilling its core purpose as a menace, took the Sooners to the brink Saturday night before falling 28-21 in overtime.

NORMAN – The Sooners bounced back from the struggle against Army yesterday with a 66-33 blowout of Baylor. Kyler Murray did not start due to being late for practice on Friday, but made up for it with an incredible performance backing up Austin Kendall. Kendall came out after the first series, and Murray then proceeded to go 17-21 for 441 yards and six TDs. His four incompletions consisted of three drops and a ball caught out of bounds. He also ran for 36 yards...

NORMAN – Bill Snyder said that Kansas State wanted to do to the Sooners this week what Army did earlier in the season – play physical and defend the explosive Sooner offense by keeping them off the field. Instead, the Sooners proved themselves the far more physical team in a mismatch that resulted in a 51-14 OU win that was not as close as the score indicated.
