The Road Warrior Report - OSU Review - November 11, 2018

NORMAN – Same story, same result. Same as last year and so many years before. The Sooners and OSU locked in a tight battle that always comes out in our favor, ín defiance of the law of averages. The 48-47 win keeps the Sooners in the driver’s seat in the Big 12 heading into the final two games of the season.

Kyler Murray was once again criminally efficient, going 21 of 29 for 349 yards and a TD, and adding 66 yards rushing....

The Road Warrior Report - Kansas Review - November 18, 2018

IMG_9246.JPG NORMAN – The Sooner defense, admittedly hampered by injuries, put on perhaps its worst performance of a bad year Saturday night, surrendering 40 points and 524 yards to lowly Kansas in a 55-40 win on a frigid evening at Owen Field. The Sooner offense, on the other hand, did not punt and scored seven TDs, failing to score only because of a pair of turnovers and running out the clock at the end of the game.

Kyler Murray was brilliant once again, other than a second...

MORGANTOWN, WV – The Sooners defeated West Virginia 59-56 Friday night in Morgantown, punching their ticket to Arlington for a rematch with Texas and a shot at their unprecedented fourth straight Big 12 title. That much, including the score, really shouldn’t have come as any surprise to anyone. What was a surprise is that the Sooner defense, which was abjectly incompetent most of the night, punctuated that futility with a couple of moments of brilliance that...

The Road Warrior Report - Orange Bowl CFP Semifinal Review - December 30, 2018

MIAMI GARDENS, FL – The pundits said we didn’t have a chance, not with our dumpster fire of a defense. In the end, they were right, as it took the Sooner offense a quarter to get going against Alabama’s defense, and by that time the Tide were up 28-0. The Sooners outscored the Tide 34-17 from there, but it was too little, too late, as Bama prevailed 45-34 and advanced to the CFP National Championship Game for the fourth year in a row.

Murray was stellar after a bad start, going 19-37 for...

    NORMAN
    – The Sooners were sloppy at times, particularly along the offensive line with a rash of holding penalties, but still squashed the South Dakota Coyotes 70-14 Saturday night on Owen Field. Jalen Hurts continued his ridiculous efficiency, completing 14 of 18 passes for 259 yards and three TDs and running for 47 yards on eight carries in just over two quarters of work.

Rhamondre Stevenson led all Sooner rushers with 104 yards and a TD on only six...

The Road Warrior Report - UCLA Review - September 15, 2019

    PASADENA, CALIFORNIA
    – On a steamy Southern California afternoon that turned into a gorgeous evening after the sun went behind the mountains, the Sooners took care of business against a hapless and outmatched UCLA team with a 48-14 rout Saturday night. While there were no exact numbers, it was clear that the Sooner fans outnumbered the UCLA fans in a half-empty Rose Bowl.

Jalen Hurts continued his assault on the passing efficiency records set by his two...

    NORMAN
    – The speculation/lamentation over the last two years has been this – what could this team do if it had even an average defense? We may be finding out, as the Sooners’ shootout nemesis over the past few years, Texas Tech, was dispatched like a G5 visitor on Saturday, 55-16 in a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. Oklahoma scored on all of its possessions in the first half, while the Sooner defense, which has in recent years given up...

    LAWRENCE, KANSAS
    – On a weird day that started with a rain delay and included the Sooners trailing for the first time this season and a Sooner punt on fourth and goal, OU thumped Kansas 45-20 this afternoon in Lawrence. Strangeness in Lawrence is far from unheard of, as is strangeness anywhere against an inferior opponent the week before the Texas game.

Jalen Hurts continued his stellar play, going 16-24 for 228 yards, two TDs, and a pick. No Sooner...

    DALLAS, TEXAS
    – They said the Cotton Bowl would show whether Oklahoma’s defense was really improved or whether they had been feasting on inferior opponents. Nine sacks, 15 total tackles for loss, and a defensively dominating 34-27 win later, it can safely be said that the Sooner defense is much improved. The score doesn’t really reflect the domination the Sooners displayed in this game, particularly in the first half. If not for a pair of red zone...

    NORMAN
    – About the only thing that went wrong on a beautiful fall Saturday in Norman was a Sooner Schooner rollover, as the Sooners rolled West Virginia, 52-14. Fortunately, no persons or ponies were hurt, although the field got rutted up a bit, and the Schooner itself, despite having come apart in the crash, rolled out of the stadium later in one piece. A Schooner accident rate of one every 26 years isn’t bad, I suppose. The last time that happened,...
