View Full Version : Alas, Glad News about the Tulsa tailgate

Mods: please stabbicize this.

Here's the deal Lucille.

What: T-Town Tailgate. Tailgate vittles and beverages. Donations appreciated.

When: Friday, 21 Sept. Starts at 4pm. Ends after the game and stuff.

Who: Dean-O's Rolling Party-Torium. More about that later*.

Where: 1328 South Gary Ave., Tulsa OK 74104. That's two blocks south of Skelly on Gary Avenue (NOT Gary Place.) Perhaps one of you techie genuiii will post a Google map or something.

The fifth wheel will be parked in front of a kind OU alumna's home on the west side of the street at the above address (1328 South Gary Place). She has graciously consented to let us spill out into her yard, use her 'lectricity and her water for the crapper. Therefore BE NICE and be considerate and do NOT pee in her bushes. She's not charging us a dime.

Why: Because this is America and we can do this sort of thing without a permit.

NOTICE: This is a residential neighborhood and there are no expressed or implied warranties parking will be available on the street. Therefore, make your way to the party at your own best speed and on your own recognizance. You will not be permitted to block folks' driveways (but you knew that already.)

* Dean scraped the roof of the fifth-wheel on the way home after the Utah St. game last Saturday. A low hanging tree branch jumped out and shaved off the vents and skylights and such. I'm informed Dean promptly ripped the tree out of the ground with his bare hands and spit in the hole. But I digress. The recreational vee-hicle is now in the RV $hop and Cleetus the manager promises it will be ready to take to the Turner Turnpike by Friday a.m. -- but as you all know, it's never a certainty when dealing with service departments.

That said, We're pressing ahead and unless Dean says no-go later, its on!

Lastly, and I promise Dean didn't put me up to this, but how about a little something extra for the effort in the tip jar next time you make a tailgate to help defray Dean's repair costs? After all, twer' it not for us, his roof would be unscraped.

Handcuffs, blindfolds, and a ball gag for you and Doleo. Bring momma for me and the rest of the boys.

I've decided we're having brats, jalapeno sausages, dogs, chips, etc. Bring anything that goes along with that. We'll have sodas, beer (canned domestic so if you're a haughty, snooty, snotty beer snob bring your own), Crown, rum, vodka, and some other **** that people have left at previous tailgates.

Hey Dean,

Just wanted to let you know that my dad might be dropping by on Friday at the tailgate. He said 4pm start time sounds like a good excuse to shut down the office early :)

Thanks for takin such good care of him since I can't always be at the games. It's kind of a tough year for him this year without his uncle with him.

At approximately 4pm today, I received a voice mail from Dean stating the fifth-wheel was damaged worse than he originally estimated. Additionally, some parts required were not in stock at Floyds RV Emporium and had to be back-ordered. In short, the vehicle will not be out of the shop in time for the Tulsa game.

Therefore, it's a bust. No-go. Cancelled. Ain't gonna happen. Sorry. Stuff happens.

Note, there is no reason to believe the RV will not be back in service in time for the next home game in Norman. Look for me in the stands. We'll be the couple in the student section wearing crimson and yelling for the Sooners.

That is all.

Somehow, some way i'm gonna be there....if'n things go right I plan on meeting everyone.

And since I was unable to score tickets, will there be anyone there during the game? perhaps to catch it on the tele?

I don't know what's going on with the fifth wheel, but all you need to tailgate is a pickup, a grill, a cooler full of beer, and friendlies (not necessarily in that order). Even us hillbillies transplanted to the desert know that. :texan:

We'd still be up for something but we're going to the game with some friends who live less than 2 blocks from the stadium on College Ave. and we gotta hookup with them some time before the game.
Maybe we could have an after game get together??????

Alright hillbillies, here's where we stand:

I went this morning to strongarm the ****nuts at Floyds. I told them to fix the roof, but just patch the skylights until the new ones come in. They were all "OK, we'll get it done today for sure." Then a little while ago I get a call. It seems that not only were the skylights back-ordered, but now they don't have any of the rubber roof crapola in stock either. They're attempting to find some locally, but it ain't looking good for the RV....

I have a call in to Homey to see if we can still set up a canopy and some tables, chairs, grill, etc. in the yard. We can do a scaled-down version of the tailgate without the turlet, A/C, and electricity/running water/TV. When I hear something back from them we'll keep you posted.

No RV, but we're gonna do it hillbilly style at the same place. I'll bring an awning, a couple tables, a few chairs, etc. I'd really rather not pack the grill, so if anyone of you mountain people could bring a grill that'd be cool.

I'll also bring the sausages, chips, dogs, beer, sodas, etc. I'll try to remember some other stuff, but I'm sure if you want to bring things like napkins, paper plates, plastic cups, etc. it'd be very helpful. I'm so used to having everything in the 5th wheel I'm sure I'm gonna forget stuff. Like tongs to turn the dogs. Somebody bring tongs dammit. And a bottle opener. And stuff.

Small tailgate grill like this (http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/72/86/49/27/0072864927007_215X215.jpg)
tongs

The grill in the link is gas. Why do you need charcoal? And I'm kinda thinking we don't want charcoal since we have to dump the coals somewhere. We need to leave this kind lady's yard in better shape than what we found it.

My hillbilly neighbors created a poop tent to take camping. It consists of an old four pole tent, a folding lawn chair, a plywood cutout with toilet seat screwed into it, a 5 gallon bucket, and a roll of kitchen trash bags. CLEAN it? It's got cast iron grates! You don't clean those, you scrape 'em off, brush 'em with oil, and fire that thing up.

(NOTE: oil BEFORE fire. The other way = bad things.)

Oh fer ****'s sake people, I'll bring my damn grill. Judas H. Priest wearing an apron and a chef's hat, you Tulsaites are one lame bunch.

We're gonna be heading out of here in an hour or two heading that way. For those that are more technically challenged than even me, the tailgate is at:

1328 S. Gary Ave.

That's Gary AVE. not Gary PLACE. It's two blocks straight south of Skelly. South means down, not up or sideways, but down. Right DOWN Gary Ave. from the stadium. Got it? Good. Be there.

Enjoy your tailgating in Tulsa and hollar really loud tonight!

When trying to find Gary Ave., remember the streets are laid out alphabetically and Street/Avenue is before Place/Court. Gary Ave is between Delaware and Harvard.

If you are coming from Norman/OKC and taking I-244 east, be sure to exit at Delaware, turn right (south) to 11th Street (you will exit around 1st St). At 11th street, turn left (east) - there is a traffic signal at the corner and I think a Bama Pie factory on the southwest corner, as well.

Follow the map to find Gary Ave. The house will be on the west side of the street (even #'s west, odd #'s east).

Ensure you can park on the street - there may be restrictions during game events......

Don't forget to bring your Bugle's snacks to share with the TU folks!

Again, for those of us that can not be at the game, do us proud!
