SETTING THE STAGE: Tonight is the season opener for both Oklahoma and Texas Tech…Tonight's game kicks off OU Hockey’s fifth season of play and the fourth season at the D1 level…This is the first of two games between the teams this weekend...Oklahoma has a 2-0-0 all-time record against Texas Tech.



OKLAHOMA NOTES: The Sooners begin the 2007-2008 season looking to improve on last season’s 31-5-0 record and No. 9 final ranking in ACHA D1 play…There are five seniors on the OU squad…Head Coach Larry Donovan does not expect to name a team captain or alternate captains until after this series against Tech…Forward Chris Nicolaou (Dallas, TX) is not expected to play this weekend as he attends to family matters back home…Forward Owen Brewer (Kenai, AK) also will not play this weekend as he continues to recover from an arm injury suffered at Nationals last March…Goaltender Chad Helgason (Woodbury, MN) is expected to get the start in net for OU tonight…The Sooners are 4-0-0 all time in season openers…Today’s game, and all other OU Hockey home games, will be broadcast on The WIRE 1710 AM in the Norman area, Cox Channel 4 in Norman (SAP) and also live on the internet - Sooners Hockey fans can listen to the game online by going to www.ouhockey.com, www.icehockey.ou.edu or http://wire.ou.edu at game time.



TEXAS TECH NOTES: The Red Raiders finished last season ranked 11th the ACHA D2 West Region…Coach Fioroni played professionally for ten years, the last five of them in Lubbock with the local WPHL/CHL team…Fioroni earned a reputation as being a team enforcer, prone to dropping the gloves in order to keep his opponents honest…Coach Fioroni just selected his 26 man roster this week after having 51 players in a two-week tryout camp…For the past few weeks, the Red Raiders have had to travel from Lubbock to Odessa for on-ice practice as their ice has not yet been installed in Lubbock’s City Bank Coliseum…Forward Kevin Mayoux is a huge offensive threat, scoring 57 goals in only 32 games last season…Forward J.P. Pruneau has been named Tech’s team captain.
