I just got a call from a buddy. His baby sister, who moved here from texass last spring, had her car impounded in some dump town in SE OK. It seems she was pulled over for speeding inside the city limits, and her OK DL and the TX tags didn't jive.

The town Barney impounded her car.

Now, I understand she should have gotten the OK tag when she changed her domicile, but she was reluctant to do so since her TX tag didn't expire until the end of October. She planned to do so then.

I realize the town had the right to do it, but frankly, bilking her for impound charges in addition to the ticket for improper registration, no proof of OK insurance and the tow just seems a might extreme to me.

Oh yeah, the car won't be released until she shows evidence of proper OK registration and of course, an OK insurance card. I'm thinking the tag may be tough since I believe they still require you to make the car available for inspection of the VIN at the tag agent when bringing it in from out of state.

If that's so, I imagine they have some kind of deal with the local tag agent wherein Barney brings the VIN over there. That is just speculation on my part, but it would add to the scamola. She would have been much smarter keeping the TX DL until she got the OK tag, but that's hindsight.

Whaddyall think?

She should be able to get a tag with proof of insurance and the vin number of the car. I'm not sure if it's the same when you move to a different state, but I just got my tag and they didn't look at my car. I paid my 91 bucks and they gave me the little sticker thingy.

Tell your buddy that his sister should contact an attorney.

Tell your buddy that his sister should contact an attorney.

She already did that. Her big brother (my buddy) is a lawyer. He called enroute to help his baby sis get this sorted-out to ask me to take a quick look at the OK Stats for him to make sure this thing the town of Poopville (not its real name) is doing is allowed under state law.

I heard pretty much this exact same story from a friend of mine the other day. He was relating it to a change by the legislature that penalized "speed trap" communities.

I think his story occurred in Hulbert.

SE Oklahoma, specifically the Ouchita National Forest, Broken Bow and Beaver's Bend areas are some of the prettiest in Oklahoma.

Of course, it still has it's share of riff raff, particularly in the Wister Lake area. :D
