Let's say some lady, we'll call her Shirley, overhears three Arab-looking young d00ds conversing in a restaurant, we'll call it"Denny's," in Moore, OK.

At one point, one guy says to the other three, "hey, if they thought 9/11 was bad, just wait till they see 9/19! " To which they all chortle. For our purposes, assume today is 9/18.

Shirley watches the three pay their bill and depart. She can see the vehicle they're driving thru the restaurant window and she takes down the OK tag number. She also watches to see which way they drive off and they head towards I-35.

Let's also assume Shirley calls this in, because she's a good American and we've all been asked to be vigilant and stuff. She calls the FBI and reports what she heard.

Here's the question: based only on these facts, should the FBI look for these guys, and, if they find them, should they arrest them for questioning?

There's not enough here to warrant tracking these guys down. There's no discussion of any criminal and/or terroristic activity, simply three guys talking about two dates-one of which happens to be the anniversary of something really bad happening.

But hey, Mother Russia loves an informant.

1) Don't call the Police.
2) Follow them in your car.
3) Call another red blooded American friend up, tell him the story and to meet up with you on I-35.
4) Pull young Hajids over.
5) Be the ****ing sand outta their asses, tie 'em up and dump them in Lake Stanley Draper.
6) Hi-Five buddy and flip a finger to the Taliban.

I hate to fall on this side of things, but to me this is just like saying, "I've got a bomb" while you're waiting in line at the airport.

If you do that ****, you're going to attract unwanted attention.

Find their asses, haul them in, question them.

(but for God's sake, no extraordinary rendition please.)

I was flying from Austin to Tulsa once and there was a muslim imam in front of me going through security. He had the white robe on, the little cap they wear, sandals, long beard, and he had a copy Koran in his hands saying a prayer as he's going through security.

They let the guy through with no problem at all, and then they stop me for a random extra invasive security check. I asked, "Why don't you go do a double check of Muhammad Achmed up there?" And the TSA guy says, "Sir, we don't profile. All of our checks are random."

Okay, so we start doing racial profiling. What do you think happens in this country when Al Qaeda, et al, get wise to this and start sending over their black African recruits?

That's very very possible. In addition, you have a portion of middle-eastern looking individuals who are, in fact, Christian.

Nonetheless, I think it's a safe assumption that most mid-east foreign travelers deserve an extra bit of scrutiny. It seems common sense to me to focus our extra security screenings on the praying imam and not the white kid from Oklahoma.

If they're smart, they won't. Once the racial profiling kicks in, just send in the Africans, and watch us melt down from all of the outrage it stirs up the first time a black male suffers official profiling at an airport.

Some of you don't go to Las Vegas very often? Do you hit on 20? Sure, there is a 4 in 52 chance that you might get an ace, but your odds are you're going to get something you expected, which is busted.

Profiling isn't foolproof, but it's a tool that should be used. A large percent of those who pull off terrorist attacks around the world are young, male, middle eastern, and muslim. Just saying.

In light of 9/11 and all subsequent attacks and attempts... noticing a trend in their ethnicity is not profiling, it's being minimally observant.

Not really. 9/11 isn't just a date or a number any more--there is significant connotation to it that anyone in the world, particularly someone inside the United States, should know.

Saying that 9/11 would be nothing compared to <insert date> is about like saying that Hiroshima or Nagasaki would be nothing compared to <whatever>. It's not something that could be dismissed as a mistake, IMO.

comparing the situation in Israel to the situation in the US is silly. I mean next we're going to have visibly armed guards everywhere including ON all of our flights.

And profiling in this country works as long as you aren't the one being profiled.

People in the US have no clue how different things are in Israel compared to here. No clue at all.

I recently had the opportunity to spend a week with a couple of Israeli Special Forces men and let me tell you, some of the things they showed us and told us about was freakin' scary.

Yeah, they don't have time to jack around with things there. The way we go about security in this country is child's play compared to how they've been dealing with security for the last 50 years.

But Bob, you know how everything has to be run exactly how we do it ;)
