Center Washington likely done for season with broken leg

OKLAHOMA CITY -- After one of its more humiliating defeats in recent years, Oklahoma State prepared to enter Big 12 Conference play without a key cog in its offensive line and perhaps without its starting tailback.
Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said junior center David Washington, who had started 27 straight games, broke his leg in Oklahoma State's 41-23 loss at Troy on Friday. Gundy is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
"It's a tremendous loss for us. He's been quarterbacking the offensive line for three years now," Gundy said Sunday.
Washington was helped off the field near the end of the first quarter and his right leg was placed in an air cast on the sidelines. Sophomore Andrew Lewis moved over from guard to replace Washington, who had started every game at center over the past three seasons, but Gundy said he didn't know if that arrangement would continue.
Gundy said freshman Grant Garner is one option. Sophomore Andrew Lawrence had been listed as Washington's backup.
"We don't know what we're going to do," Gundy said. "Our center does so many things in this offense and so now we've got to go back to the drawing board to try to figure out how to get the right guys in there that can make a play but also who's going to make all the calls and direct everything. There's a lot of work to be done."
Gundy also said he thought starting tailback Dantrell Savage, who has missed the last two games with an injury, would likely be a game-time decision this week as he was before the Troy game.
