I'd hook up with some Mac McAnally, maybe some island reggae - something with lots of steel drums, I'd put some Joni Mitchell in there, some old Eagles stuff, maybe a couple of older James Taylor songs. See what you can find from The Neville Brothers - one of N'Awlins' favorite sons bands. I'd even throw in some Al Hirt and Pete Fountain. I'm just rattling off performers that Buffett says have had influences on him, or he's performed with.

...and do something funny with ping pong balls. Like drop 100 or so on his head when he walks into the room.

"Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" was his best-selling album, with "Margaritaville." But there were other classics on that one like "In The Shelter," "Wonder Why We Ever Go Home?", "Tampico Trauma" and one of my favorites, "Biloxi" which was actually written by Keith Sykes.

Two albums later, he came out with "Volcano." The classic "Fins" is from that one, plus "Boat Drinks."

What a disappointment.

I hear the one in Orlando and Las Vegas is way better.

Oh, Lord - now you're talking. Key West is a favorite place of mine. There are lots of gays, but they pretty much do their own thing and not in your face.

Buffett is a wooden boat guy - "son of a son of a sailor" - I have a picture of his former sailboat he kept docked in KW - named "Savannah Jane." "Savannah" after one of his favorite cities - and his daughter's name - and "Jane" after his wife. In Key West, on Duvall Street, you'll find the original Margaritaville Bar and Cafe, which I first visited in 1988. Also, look for places mentioned in Buffett songs like Caroline Street and Fausto's.

If you find yourself at Southernmost Point, and you're standing with your back to the water in front of the cone-shaped thing in the pic below, the second house to your right is a former residence of JB.

You will also want to head down to Sunset Pier at the end of the day - the rest of the island does. I actually dragged my mom and dad down there, and, even though they didn't understand what it was all about, I am glad they experienced it.

Mrs. VJ and I once took a "sunset cruise" on a "pirate" sailing ship when we were there, before we got married. On that cruise, a guy sitting next to me shouted "May I have your attention?" as the sun was setting on the horizon. He got on a knee on the boat and proposed to his girlfriend. In front of about 20 of us who were on the boat. After we got back to the dock, we all went to Sloppy Joe's and bought them drinks.

What else do you need to know about Key West?

By the way, do not fly in to Key West. Fly into Miami - no, Fort Lauderdale, and drive to Key West. The drive once you leave the mainland from Key Largo to Key West is one of the most beautiful in the U.S.

VJ - all of the things you mentioned in your last post is pretty much what we're planning to do.

ph has been down there about 4 times and just loves it! I can't wait to experience the whole atmosphere.

We're going to fly into Ft. Lauderdale and take a convertible into KW.

I would love to see the sunset there. I'm sure it's absolutely amazing.

Maybe we could all get together when we're there... Oh wait. You're in NC now and not Florida.

I enjoyed a few drinks at the Hog's Breath saloon.

We hit for one day as we were on a Royal Caribean Cruise.

I would like to drive there next time and stay a few days.
