The actor who played Gomer Pyle on the humorous sitcom that poked fun at the Marine Corps will be promoted to the rank of “honorary” corporal at Fort DeRussy’s Kuroda Field in Waikiki, Hawaii, on Sept. 25.

The ceremony led by Lt. Gen. John Goodman, commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific, will honor Jim Nabors on the 43rd anniversary of the show’s premiere, according to a Marine Corps release.

“Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.” lasted five years in prime time and has been syndicated on cable television. Nabors first made an appearance as Gomer on “The Andy Griffith Show.”

Nabors was first named an “honorary” Marine in 2001 with a rank of lance corporal.

Well if John Goodman is a Lt Gen. then they must be just giving rank away these days.

Hell, if Bush can give a Presidential Medal of Freedom to an *** like George Tenet, why would I knock an actor being given a Marine Corps honorary promotion?

I trust the Corps better than I trust this Admin, for damn sure.
