A friends wife is an ER nurse in the metroplex.

A few days ago, they had a guy come in that had tried to kill himself,
with a nail gun.

He first shot himself in the middle of his forehead, missing anything important so it didn't kill him, so he shot himself again in the back of the head. No luck their either.

Finally, he decides to shoot himself in the heart. He missed that too, with the nail just going into his lung.

A friend of his caught him and stopped him from further attempts and rushed him to the hospital. They are leaving the one in the back of his head as it would be more dangerous to take it out than to leave it alone.

He'll have to carry a card with him stating he has metal in his body... kinda like when a person has had a knee or hip replacement.

He's obviously a skilled artisan. Most people would've just used this.

I heard a story on the radio a few years back about a failed suicide attempt.

The guy wanted to crucify himself, so he built a cross, laid it on the floor and went to work. He got the nail through his feet, got a nail through one wrist, and then, as he was laying there, the realization came to him that with one arm already nailed to his cross, how the **** is he going to nail his other arm in?

Needless to say, the nails on people being crucified wasn't what killed them, and even if he had gotten both arms nailed in, he would still be laying in the floor as everything clotted - leaving him still very much alive...

No matter how long or thick that nail was, it wasn't going to find anything important in that head.

Interesting that this should come up during the WHO's Suicide Prevention Awareness Week. Monday was the actual day, but still.
