after 2 weeks, I see emerging similarities to our 2000 team, mostly heupelesque in nature. Although we don't run the spread, Bradford definetely spreads the ball around with low-risk passes and takes an occassional chunk downfield. It seems to me at this point we are a passing team, using that to set up the run.On defense i believe we are better. A good strategy for the next two weeks would be to run the ball, develop a little rhythim with that part of the game, opponents haven't got the full take on us as yet. Thoughts?

With the talent and play styles I think we look a lot more like 2003 than 2000. But still too early to tell how close.

You feel this defense is better than your 2000 team? That's a pretty lofty comparison. No doubt you're good, but I think that might be a little premature.

The defense in 2000 seemed to come together against Texas. I recall giving up big plays to Kansas that year and being a little worried going into the Texas game. As the season progressed, the D became dominant.

Right now the D looks pretty tough, probably better than the 2000 team at this point. But then again, we are only 2 games into the season.

I love the pursuit to the ball, and that we are in better position to make plays this year. We didn't have that in 2005, and early 2006. And I think it will get better.

Exactly. I was at that Kansas game and remarked to my FIL that if we didn't get our act together in the secondary Chris Simms was going to torch us. :O

I don't think this defense compares to 2000, but the secondary is about as good as I've ever seen. Sam B. makes good decisions and seems pretty coolheaded, but at this point in 2000 it was clear that Josh H had an absolute command of that offense and could read a defense better than almost any college QB. Don't get me wrong, this team looks good, I just think they look good in ways that aren't 2000-esque.

You're the second person that I have seen post something to this effect this week.

Our ground game is LIGHT years ahead of where we were with Kejuan and Renaldo. Also, we have this position that was lost in 03, it's called a tight end.

This team reminds me of the 00 team a lot. Not only Bradford's accuracy and decision making, but the D is playing more like the 00 D- they keep the ball in front of them. The 00 D was solid, they weren't the 01 D that everyone remembers so fondly, they kept themselves in a position to make a play.

I think that the reason that we seem so pass oriented is that our opponents in our first two games knew who AOC is, knew who Brown is, and feared who our youngins are going to become. And they respected our line. What they did not know was Bradford (of the Oklahoma Bradfords). They knew our receivers could catch, but could OU get the ball to the receivers? Better to stop the run and make OU prove that they could throw.

Hence, WE THREW!!!
