Born 9/27/84 in Tyler, Texas ... full name is Tyrell Antwain Gatewood

It goes best with this quote from August of this year

It's not what we have worked for 9 ½ years to portray in our program of class, integrity and character. It's something we aren't proud of. But I can also assure you that it's not indicative of who this team really is. We're excited to be able to prove that."

According to the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Tyrell Gatewood was arrested early Thursday morning for possession of a "dangerous drug."

Texas safety Tyrell Gatewood was arrested was arrested early Thursday morning on three misdemeanor's, including two counts of misdemeanor drug possession, according to the Travis County Sheriff's office. Gatewood was booked at 12:36 a.m. No details on the drugs have been released. Bond is set a $5,500.

This isn't Gatewood's first run-in with the law. On September 4th, 2006, Gatewood, now-San Francisco 49ers and then-Longhorn cornerback Tarell Brown and former Texas linebacker Aaron Harris were arrested. Harris was driving Gatewood's car and, according to the probable cause affidavit, both Gatewood and Brown were asleep in the car at the time of the arrest. Harris admitted the marijuana was his and had been smoking marijuana. Both Gatewood and Brown tested negative and the charges were dropped, but each served a one-game suspension, sitting out Texas' loss to Ohio State.

Originally a wide receiver at Texas, Gatewood moved to safety and has primarily been a special teams player for the Longhorns. He practiced at wide receiver some during fall camp due to the injuries to receivers Limas Sweed, Jordan Shipley and Billy Pittman. Gatewood has two tackles this season.

One of the Austin newspapers just said that it was some pot, Xanax, and a Codeine based cough syrup.

He got arrested for Purple Drank! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_drank) :D

Oh, and he has posted bond for the dangerous drug charges. Unknown bond status for the out of county warrant.

Pathetic. One or two busts every now & then is probably status quo for all college football teams but they've had, what, like a dozen arrests in the past 2 years?

On the other hand, they're making it easy for Stoops..

"if your son goes to Texas, there is a statistical probability he'll develop a drug habit and wind up being arrested. But y'all already knew that, right??"

Seriously, is their whole ****ing team on drugs??

You're wrong. Consider yourself corrected.

As for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, knock yourself out trying to find a post from me which excuses drug use. My stance all along ahs been, and will continue to be, if you are caught with drugs, and they are yours, you should be gone... no second chances.

I don't, and won't, rejoice when a young person makes a bad decision and hurts his/her life. I don't give a damn what team they play for or where they are from.

Except for terrorists. They can rot from the crotch inward.

But a young person playing for my favorite team's rival? I'll be praying for him and for his family. I hope he uses this experience to turn himself around.

I'm ever a mama...:(

Ex-UT quarterback Gardere arrested on DWI charge

Former Texas quarterback Peter Gardere was arrested early this morning for under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Austin.

Gardere, the only UT quarterback in history to beat rival Oklahoma four times, was released on a personal recognizance bond. Gardere was quarterback at UT from 1989-92.

Perhaps Peter @#!%$ Gardere was just trying to forget, or remember.

From Burnt Orange Nation:

Ten years ago today, the Texas Longhorn football nation collectively went on life support. We laid there, on our death beds, choking on the exhausts of what was perhaps the most humiliating loss in school history.

Yes, 10 years ago today was Rout 66.

I had almost forgotten this dark, dark moment in Texas football history until an old friend emailed me with a letter titled: "Where is Skip Hicks now?"

After some deliberation, we decided that this moment must not be forgotten. That only through remembering the pain of the past could we be strong in the future.

Just remember this nuclear moment in Texas football history the next time you want to tear your hair out because Jamaal Charles isn't being used quite as well as he could be.

It could be worse. It could be far, far worse. Never forget.

i was at the bar tonight in Denver and a girl next to me at the bar noticed my Sooner hat and immediately started talking trash and throwing the "hook em" sign at me. She then proceeded to tell me that all of our players are criminals. I laughed as I told her that they had a player arrested today for drug use. Her boyfriend looked really embarrassed and she didnt say another word.

Uh huh. Are you claiming the suspects or the substances were drug tested? If a person is found in possession of drugs in Texas, the drugs belong to the suspect until he/she can prove otherwise. If a suspect is arrested for possession, he/she isn't given a drug test to determine whether he/she is a user. Try to keep up, possession of an illegal substance is an OFFENSE in the state of Texas.

Wow.. who knew?!! Thank you for your learned treatise on law in the State of Texas!

In the case from 2006, both suspects were drug tested and were found clean, the drugs were found to belong to another and all charges were dropped.

Ben Wells, a freshman defensive back, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor, but was not taken to jail. A team spokesman said Brown took no disciplinary action against Wells, who was set to redshirt this season.
