Since there seems to be so much coffeeshop talk about Nichol trsnferring,I thought this was a good question.I personnally think he should and will stay at least through this season. As for the future anyone high-profile player who transfers should realize that at MOST big-time football schools, there will be guys ahead of you when you get there.Case in point Tommy Grady went ffrom sitting the bench at OU to riding the bench at Utah.If he had stayed,he may have been option #1 after Bonehead was booted. He would have had a shot this year too.Paul Thompson stuck it out, worked hard, and had a great senior season.

I am not saying Nichol will transferBut WHAT IF?I think he would be the one to lose out as OU is bigger than any one player. If he leaves or stays OU will go on.That is why I don't get caught up in transfers or so-called recruiting losses,OU is bigger than that.

I hope stays but if not Halzle is here to back up Bradford and Landry Jones is on the way, with future QBs to follow,I'm sure.

First off, this seems like a silly discussion to me because there hasn't even been an inkling of him thinking about transferring. Second, Bradford's only played 2 games, and we don't know how good Miami is, so hold your horses about anointing him. Third, Nichol doesn't seem like the kind of kid that will just quit after he doesn't get his way.

I think he gets to RS at some point in his career here, and then competes with Landry Jones or whoever's around when the QB job opens up again.

sooners better work hard at keeping him...it doesnt take but one whiff block by a lineman or rb that could end bradford's season....teams NEED 3 qb's

What is your rreaction if Nichol transfers? Interesting that Bob is playing Halze as BU after burning Nichol's 'shirt. (which I guess he did vs.N.Tex.State, but I don't know what the full redshirt regs are). I would think that was part of Nichol's deal to come here that he doesn't redshirt this year. If Sam continues his above-average play at QB, then I wouldn't be surprised to see Nichol transfer to a Big 10 or MAC school. With all the pre-season board-hype on Nichol, In a real tight game if Sam gets dinged, it's going to be interesting to see who Bob/KW/Josh actually put under center.
BTW, Grady plays on TV Saturday afternoon against a good UCLA team. UCLA at Utah 4:00 p.m. Versus (the schedule says it's central time) http://ww w.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm (http://www.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm) This TV schedule says DO NOT COPY, protected by copyscape, Plagiarism will be detected. LMAO, I guess they're going to send the Geek-squad police to get me, if I copy a TV football schedule.

this post is good to read. Grady's still not worth considering though. If he needs an injury at a second rate program to become a starter then obviously Chuck Long's evaluation skills are lacking more than his coordinator abilities.

Me opinion, just from what I have read in print, is that Nichol is the true back up. I really thought they might try what they did with PT a couple of years ago and annoint him the #2, but not let him play unless SB got hurt. That way he could be the #2 and still get a RS year in.
The UNT game spoiled that philosophy.
I still think he is the real #2. If SB gets injured and is going to be out long term, I think KN becomes the man. Otherwise, I think Halzle would have been the starter 2 weeks ago.
Nothing to base it on, just my what I think.

He can still RS this year.

Not. He has played in a game this year and this year counts as one of his four. The only exception is if he has a season ending injury (and I think it has to be before OU plays 20% of their games, but not sure). And, even if he has the season-ending injury, he can not apply for a medical RS until after his senior year.

Keith Nichol is a hard worker and tried his best to be the Sooner starter this year. He graduated high school early and had such a solid pitch from Stoops and Heupel that he reneged on his deal with Michigan State to come to OU, and came a semester early so he could compete for the starting job.

We need him. Yes, I know everybody loves Bradford and he's the second coming of White, Heupel and Naimath combined, but WE NEED KEITH NICHOL... for the following reasons:

1- Hazle will not be here forever, because he has one year of eligibility after this season.

2- Bradford is still untested against top tier teams and may need a breather when competition gets stiffer.

3- Hazle and Bradford could get injured, because it's happened before (See Hybl, White, 2001).

4- He's a good athlete and will step up to any challenge, including leading the Sooners to a national championship.

5- He's a good person and will not embarrass the program like some players have in the past that shall not be named here.

Sooooooo... we need Iceman, and as long as he no longer has a redshirt, he needs us this season, too. Stay, Keith, stay!

Scott D
