This is a song I wrote shortly after September 11th, 2001.

Chivalry

They say the age of chivalry is gone,
That’s it’s dog-eat-dog and natural that the weak fall to the strong.
When it’s each man for himself; the nice guys won’t last long
For they say the age of chivalry is gone.

One bright September morning terror streaked down from the sky
And where two towers had been standing 2000 people died
Yet amid the cries of horror, rose a hopeful united song
But they said the age of chivalry was gone.

Many firemen and police were among the ones who died.
How many owe their lives to those who chose to stay inside,
And the medics and the rescue workers who helped the folks along?
But they say the age of chivalry is gone.

Passengers on board the doomed flight 93
Crashed into an empty field, and stopped a greater tragedy
With nothing left to lose they refused to become another bomb
And they say the age of chivalry is gone.

As the military mourns its own, they prepare to fight again
And leave their homes and families so the terror will not win.
How many more will grieve a fallen daughter or a son?
But they say the age of chivalry is gone.

And they say the age of chivalry is gone.
That’s it’s dog-eat-dog and natural when the weak fall to the strong.
But to rise up against this new foe, we make a solemn vow
And I say the age of chivalry is now.
