It could be said that Jenni Carlson stole the "Slingin' Sammy Bradford" from me. I will write high school football from time to time for the Oklahoma City Friday Paper (local nw okc weekly paper), and I worked full time as the sports editor in Bradford's sr. year at PC North. It made it more interesting to give some of the better players nicknames, I remember giving a big tailback at McGuinness the name "Mule-train" and a Casady kid was "Speedy Pete". I know for certain that I called Bradford "Slingin' Sammy Bradford" early on in the season, or it may have even been in the pre-season insert for the paper. So, you can wipe away the Jenni Carlson stigma.

in my case, it absolutely was. i also used/appropriated "mule train" and a few others. while i thought AD was cool, the two letter nicknames (LT, PT, and so on) are kind of bland. the old style nicknames can't be beat, but they really don't stick to a player any more. i will say that i liked the commercial for the ea sports college football game with AD saying, "i am golliath". would have been nice to see that nickname stick with ou, putting a bit of a pro-OU spin on "that game"'s aftermath. I know I'm getting a little off topic, but I almost prefer, "I am/we are golliath" to "there's only one". It's a little more intimidating than "there's only one".

Hmm... nickname ideas...

His initials are "SB" so instead of the whole Superman thing with his parents being Martha and Kent, we could just call him...
Super Boy... Sooner Boy... Sammy Boy... Shotgun Bomber

His initials backwards are "BS" kind of like "Bob Stoops" or "Boomer Sooner," so he could also be the... "Sooner Boomer"

His number is #14, kind of like another famous Heisman shouda been who led us to the little. So he could also be called "Heupel Jr." or "Little Heupel"

But, he is a freshman, so like many n00bs, he could have a n00bish nickname, like "Froshie Thrower" or "Sammy Baby"

However, I like to think that he is a smart quarterback, over being a young quarterback, Heupel clone or anti-BS dude. Therefore, I say we call him "Einstein" or "Scholar" because he solves any offense problems idiot sports experts thought we would have this season :D

It needs to be something with a long "U" sound. You know, one that the fans naturally voice during a game. A few yrs ago it was "Quuuu..." whenever Quentin Griffin made a play. Recently it's been "RUUU..." when Rufus Alexander caused damage to someone. Remember the fb for the Dallas Cowboys called Moose Johnson? Whenever he caught a pass "MOOO..." It even happened at away games, something I understand really irritated some NFL teams.

So there. Want something that will catch on and be anticipated by every fan at Owen Field, come up with a long u sounding nickname. :texan:
