20 games left. Five games behind Cleveland in the division. Three behind the Yankees in the wild card.

They can, but their recent history has been to play great in June & July and slide the rest of season. They're not in freefall; they've been playing .500 ball of late and they could get hot again.

But, hey, did you see this?
Tigers' Granderson joins rare 20-20-20-20 club (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/09/09/granderson.ap/index.html?eref=si_topstories)

That's 20 steals, 20 doubles, 20 triples, and 20 homers.
And he's just a 2nd year player.

Granderson's a stud. Bonderman is out indefinitely. Not that it wasn't going to be tough to make up ground on the Indians/Yankees anyway, but this really hurts.

no clip, up here the sky is falling...they need to get rid of 60% of the pitching staff, why they keep playing thames is something confusing to fans, why they just don't bench inge is beyond most fans, and the fans also think they need to sit both pudge and casey (the former for swinging at nearly everything, the latter for being a defensive liability). ;)

there are actually a few nutjobs that think leyland should be fired if they don't make the playoffs. Others blame lloyd mcclendon for the batting slump the team went through recently.

Only 3.5 out of the wild card. Go Tigers! Hey Red Sox, can I get a little help this weekend?

Tigers win, but the Sox are ticking me off.

How do you blow a 7-2 lead heading into the playoffs? Grrr.

If it's any consolation, PC, I'm probably 5 times as ****ed as you are about the outcome.

Even though I fully realize that the Red Sox will be in the playoffs one way or the other. And will likely still win the AL East.

Still, we're 2-7 in our last 9 against the Yankees.

That makes me very unhappy.

I strongly doubt that. We're fighting for our playoff lives here.

Point well taken. ;)

I'm so torn.....I mean, I hate the Yankees because well...I was raised to.

On the other hand, watching Tiger/Wolverine fan go into total meltdown mode is sooooooooo much fun.

Zumaya gave up three runs or it wouldn't have gone to extra innings.

I'm afraid our boys are done. :(

after the completion of the sweep by Cleveland today you can pretty much stick a fork in em.

Yeah, Cleveland's magic number is down to 3 and the Wild Card is getting to be a longer shot all the time.

Yes, indeed. However, since my glass is perpetually half-full I can state that I'll take seasons like this over what we had through the 90s and most of this decade. It's nice that we're disappointed to not make the playoffs instead of being disappointed that once again we finished 20 or more games under .500.

And the Tigers end the season well, with a 13-3 win over Chicago. Maybe next year...

hell with the way we played this year I'm glad we put KC back in the basement in time to keep with our tradition this year of taking 2 out of 3 from the Tigers. :)
