It's only good when you've got another job lined up. Sucks otherwise. :)

That sounds like being an MWD. I've been in my recliner all morning and just took a shower. Don't call from 2 to 3:30, that's my nap time.

I quit, gave my notice 2 weeks ago. got a better (more enjoyable) gig lined up. Don't have to work with government people, and I won't be sitting behind a damn desk all day.

Oh, and as far as "time off", I took today and tomorrow. Any longer than that and I'd go NUTS.

Today I'm touching up the trim in my house. after putting in the windows last weekend I have a few chips and such.

I despised my two weeks of unemployment moving to Tulsa. I think I cleaned everything twice, started morning jobs again (ow, my knees) and played a lot of video games.

I know it sounds fun to play lots of video games, but it got old and so did cleaning.

I am now happily employed at a full time run-around-everywhere job. LOVE IT!

Sure as long as someone keeps providing my day rate, housing, utilities, car, gas, phone...

I took a week off between jobs in August, it was wonderful. Congrats.

I went from a job doing tilt-wall buildings with 5 under construction and about 90% C/A to one where I am doing more site planning and 3DSMax renderings. I hated doing that much C/A and being the IT guy, I didn't go into architecture to push paperwork.

but the good news is I won't be back in the US until Feb, I'm going to try and visit australia and thailand before I head home..

Been in it for almost 20 years now, worked for the "big" firm in OKC for about 11 of those years (88-91 and 94-03).

Benham, I was at TAP for about 6 months when I moved back from Dallas in 93. My dad worked there for 34.5 years until he retired in 2002.

unless you apprentice for any sort of contractor/repairman/handyman during high school you don't have 'a job', you have disposable income.

since we know manual labor isn't your gig, you don't qualify. :)

I never had a chore. Not once, ever. I never took the garbage out until I went to college.

I lifeguarded, taught swim lessons, and co-coached a junior swim team through HS.

Does any program prepare their graduates for the actual job they'll be doing worse than architecture? It's almost comical.

That was the problem that I had with it, and no clutch on my 18 y.o. mouth at the time. I grew up around the biz, so I knew what I was getting into in the real world end of things. Architecture school is for those who want to teach their vision of what architecture should be, which is nothing like the real world.

If I would have known what 95% of architects really do, I probably would have stuck with it, so it's probably a good thing that the schooling is so different.

doesn't change the fact that being an aquatic babysitter isn't a job, it's something to pass the time.

I just got back to work after my broken hand dealio from July 6th. Surgery, rehab... all that ugliness.

After about three hours yesterday (my first day back), I realized how much I liked getting tax-free paychecks, waking up whenever, not paying for food and gas on the go every week and pretty much doing nuthin'.
That said, I am happy I'm back. My job ain't so bad. :)
