I would have to put Kim Deal first, but a lot of that is because of her vocal contributions as well.

Then Tina Weymouth.

I suppose Kim Gordon should be mentioned as well.

Kim Gordon would have got my vote but even while SY continued to put out pretty decent LP's in the late 90's the KG screeds were a little tiring. the sprawl is great on Daydream ("that big sign on the road is where it all started....").....but the later stuff is excessive. she's still pretty hot for a chick who is (get ready.....) more than 50 years old.

i'll go with Kim Deal since her "sound" is instantly recognizable. Weymouth is a nice choice.

someone will mention D'arcy and Melissa Auf der Maur (the single most hilarious interveiw i've ever read was a Hole interview with M A d M---she just spent most of her time talking about hot she was and how she belonged in a Botticelli painting)

Chicks should stay the hell away from the bass, drums, and lead guitar.

Chicks playing R&R is like dudes doing rhythmic gymnastics with the little twirly things. It shouldn't be done.

The hottest was the girl from Belly, but you couldn't pay me to listen to them.

Kira from Black Flag rocked.

And Dean, are you trying to sound like an old codger from 1956? If so, good work! :D

Actually, 1957.

And old ain't got anything to do with it. Chicks playing R&R is like chicks playing football. Kinda cute, but it ain't football.

Man, that's a tough question. He's had so many. I'd have to go with Stanley Clarke.

Tina Weymouth may have been well known, but she was an average bassist.

I can't think of any female bassists that would be considered above average, except maybe in looks.

I'm sad my D'arcy vote got no play at all,

I think some people are ignoring me completely...

D'Arcy was OK. But Corrigan had this habit of going back in and playing his bandmates' parts over himself for the records. No telling how much was actually her.

um, he had more then a habit, and there's a reason I was hoping she would get more play, not that it was a legit response, I was just trying to **** with people...

Deal has my vote.

Gordon is a distant second.
Jennifer Finch should get some mention - L7 (5 albums) and I concur on the chick from belly and L7
