I don't think there has ever been another rock act who successfully used the flute as part of their repertoire.

Freddy Mercury played one.

I'm not sure you could hear it in their music though.

Traffic had flute and had some great records. Traffic, Mr. Fantasy, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, John Barleycorn, etc.

The Moody Blues feature the flute on many songs. They never played it on one leg, though.

Marshall Tucker Band featured the flute on some of their songs - "Can't you see" comes immediately to mind, although there were probably others. Then again, I guess they were more "Southern" rock than JT.
