I've done the brats boiled in beer and onions and then grilled. I didnt really notice the beer and onions flavor much. My question is do you get the raw brats or the pre-cooked ones? I did the pre-cooked. Maybe theres a difference.

Always buy the raw ones.

Brats have quite a bit of flavor already in them, so I see what you say where the boiled ones don't add a bunch of flavor. But I do think they taste better that way. Also, with boiling them first you don't have to worry about grilling them till they are done inside, just grill em how you like them on the outside.
