Also saw where Muskogee beat Broken Arrow, 22-16. Lot of subplots in that one, as BA coach Ron Lancaster faced his former team, now coached by Matt Hennessy, who played for Lancaster at Enid back in the '80s. Hennessy went on to play linebacker at Kansas State.

And for those that care, in Arkansas tonight, Fort Smith Southside beat Greenwood, 35-25. Southside's the defending 7A state champ and Greenwood the 5A state champ.

7A? In Arkansas? What's the deal with that?

They realigned last year - the largest 16 schools in the state are 7A, the next 16 largest are 6A, then the next 32 are 5A, and so on...it's really kind of ridiculous - 1/2 of the teams make the playoffs...

I couldn't agree with you more. They should go back to the old classification system. Heck, even the highest level of football in Texas is 5A and for Arkansas to have a 7A is entirely laughable.

Texas has two playoffs for 5A though, Division 1 and 2.

Not only 5A, Division 1 & 2 for each class. More money for the UIL (Texas' version of the OSSAA)

Great high school game tonight (or last night) - yes, some of us had to miss the OU-TU game because of work obligations.

Anyway, I digress.

Broken Bow-Sallisaw. Savages win, 7-0, when they stop Sallisaw's tailback inches short of the goal line on a fourth down in the final seconds. And Sallisaw had been running the ball down their throats in that series until that last play. If you like good old-school rock 'em, sock 'em football, then that game was for you. I would rather see a game like that than two spread offenses trying to outdo one another any day of the week.
