He was at practice yesterday and was running the ball. He evidently got hit by one of the other kids helmets. It put a 1" deep x 2" wide laceration in his forearm. It had to stitched up from the inside and the outside. His Mom said it was bleeding really bad.

Anyway...He might have possibly broke the humerous and they aren't sure if he got into the growth plate or not. He's supposed to see the Docs again soon. Ian is 11 and a very good RB and LB and a huge Sooner Fan. He's been to many games until he started playing football a few years back.

Please put him in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers.

Thanks in advance....

Don't know yet.

I'm sure I will get updated at least by Tailgate time in Norman.

Thank you all.

As a father of a newborn son I can't imagine what that must feel like when a parent sees that happen to their child. My best wishes....

man, sorry to hear that, troup. i have a 6 month old son and i imagine that's a pretty scary sight.

sounds like a freak accident. tell him he'll atleast have a sweet battle wound to show all his friends.

Just got an email from my Brother about Ian.

I saw him last night. Right arm, above the elbow, may have small crack in humerus, 1.5 inches deep cut from the snap on the chin strap or something, may have had metal on it, so now Owasso football seems like investigating all players’ gear at kid-level… to make sure they prevent an injury like this occurring in some other kid too, due to the equipment type/accessory…

Double-stitched… like in a L-shape, 10 days recovery minimum… 2-3 internal stitches, like 10-12 external, has to wear an arm brace, so hard for him to do schoolwork… first game is like 9/8/2007, they may hold him out first game likely, etc…

Looks like things are moving in a positive direction.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I am glad this running back named Ian is on the Sooner's side. We don't need any opposing Ian running backs. Here's hoping he pulls through and helps us revenge a few teams in a dozen years :)

Just saw this, but I am glad to hear that things are headed in the right direction now. My only advice would be to tell him to let it heal properly. I had a thumb injury that I tried to ignore and it has bothered me for 20+ years. The few weeks of inconvenience seem really bad but, trust me, it is the lesser of the two evils.

In my prayers I will be sure to specify it is the 11 year old Ian in Oklahoma I'm interested in. Is there a icon for "watching for lightning bolts" to add here?
