It is a good newspaper if you can get past all the Liberal $hit. It's like they want to be the NY Times of the midwest. They have some great articles today on OKlahoma/Texas, The Big Twelve (they pick us over Texas to win the Big 12 championship) and college football. Scroll down past the Chiefs/NFL crap.

I found this part interesting:

Things are just different at Oklahoma. It’s one of the few universities in the country where the athletic department doesn’t receive any funding from the university’s central budget, according to school president David Boren. In fact, the athletic department provides subsidies to academic budgets each year. The opposite is true at most universities.

So much for athletics not directly contributing to academic welfare!

This is kind of ancient news in Oklahoma...Yes, but I thought it was common at other football powers, too. Not a rarity that the football program contributes to the academic piggy bank.

cant believe this is already falling out. lots of good articles about the big twelve - not just about the Longhorns and Sooners money spent - which is a good article

Nebraska has a self-supporting Athletic Department as well, and has had one for many years. Most years it kicks a few million into the General Fund at the end of the year as well.
