UCO football coach suspended two weeks

EDMOND — University of Central Oklahoma football coach Chuck Langston has been suspended for two weeks from practice and team-related activities and barred from recruiting off campus for a year, UCO president Roger Webb announced Tuesday.

The suspension stems from UCO's receipt of a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA. The notice outlined illegal tuition and medical payments by the UCO athletic department, including the payment of tutition for 80 athletes to take classes at Rose State College.

"Early in Coach Langston's tenure at this institution, he and some of his former assistants apparently made poor choices in trying to accommodate some of their new football players,” Webb said in the statement. "And while these errors of judgment were not malicious, and eventually ceased more than two years ago, they are not acceptable behavior for any member of the UCO athletic department.”

"I am terribly disappointed in the football program, and the mistakes made by coach Langston and some former assistant coaches — who are no longer with UCO — are an embarrassment to the university.”

During his suspension, Langston will be required to meet with compliance staff and review NCAA regulations and university compliance procedures. He will return to the team Sept. 3.

Defensive coordinator Steve Patterson will be the interim head coach.

I wonder how many scholarships and wins this will cost us.
