HALIFAX — The Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League season is over for the Sydney Sooners after they lost all three games of a series with the Halifax Pelham Canadians.

Halifax swept the Sunday triple-header at the Mainland Commons by scores of 9-0, 9-2 and 5-2.

The Sooners (11-18) needed at least a series victory against the Halifax Pelham Canadians (13-10) to keep their hopes of attaining the fourth and final playoff spot alive.

The teams played three consecutive seven inning games, Sunday after Saturday’s doubleheader was rained out.

Halifax had both pitching and hitting in Game 1 of the three game set.

On the mound junior pitcher Pat MacInnis tossed a three-hit shutout and Halifax posted a 15-hit attack in a 9-0 win.

Jay Turple blasted a three run homer in the third inning and a two run shot in the sixth inning to lead Halifax at the plate.

Craig Cooper added a solo home run in the sixth.

Travis MacQuarrie was the losing pitcher for Sydney.

Beau Chiasson had two singles to lead the Sooners attack.

In the 9-2 Halifax win, Mark Pelham broke the game open when he lined a bases-loaded triple in the third inning.

The Canadians scored four in the inning to build a 7-1 lead.

MacInnis started and threw five solid innings to pick up his second win of the day.

Sooners started Matt Denny pitched into the fourth inning and was tagged with the loss.

The Sydney bats were again led by Chiasson who hit a single and a double. Geoff MacLellan and Jason Snow each added two singles

Another junior pitcher held the Sooners in check in the third game of the series when Jason Smith pitched a complete game to lead Halifax to a 5-2 win and a series sweep.

Halifax led the game early with two first inning runs. Sydney tied it with two of their own in the third before Geoff Dunsworth stroked a bases-loaded double to give Halifax a lead they would not relinquish.

Jason Snow pitched a complete game for Sydney. Their top hitter was Ryan MacDonald who had two singles.
