Hard to overcome the hideous colors.

Nor surprising that an aggie wouldn't have that struggle :D

WOW!!!!

eight years without a helmet change. i guess it gives osu a nice goal to shoot for.

ISU is one of the most changing logos U around, that and the going-down-in-flames LosuR....

Oh and thanks to OSUAggie for sharing the ISU news.

Still looks better than the neon traffic cone orange at Boone-Pickens U.

I like the choice. I'm a big fan of the white helmet with logo. Looks clean. I don't think they could have gone wrong with any of those choices.

The uniforms are still too busy, but the away jerseys aren't too bad.

Before we get too critical, remember, there's only one Oklahoma ;). The rest are just playing in our sandbox.

Which reminds me- we still need to do something about those blatant Hoosier uniform ripoffs.

i usually like white helmets but the white face mask and yellow trim make them look like an easter egg.

White helmets are for middle school teams. They remind me of the 1950s when they didn't know any better, laziness, or being too poor to be able to paint an entire helmet.

Not great, but much better than what they recently had. I also agree with the fact that what they had in the Big 8 was the balls. They shoulds have never went away from that and the different colored helmets for the seniors.

I'd have just gone ahead and put Ronald McDonald on them. That would be original.

the best ISU dud's were the years they had both yellow and red helmets on the field at the same time. jeez. ugh.

i actually like the logo they had with the bird coming out of the I in one of the multiple incarnations. but, they'll never escape the mcdonalds large order of fries look.

edit: man, vegas and iron beat me to both my points. slow on the uptake today.

No one asked my opinion, but I would have done the I with the STATE through it. I also would have worn white pants on the road instead of red and gone all white.

At home I would have also worn white pants.

I would also have put CYCLONES on the home unis and IOWA STATE on the road unis.

JohnnyMack

Also, schools that change their unis a bunch (outside of minor cosmetic touchups here and there) are fags. All of them.

early 80's. link won't let you link direct. click on Big XII and then scroll to ISU section. i remember it as a kid.

http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/

"*3 During at least 1983 and 1984, and possibly in 1985 and 1986 also, at least some players wore an "inverted" version of this helmet (red shell, yellow logo, one yellow stripe, with red facemask). Most sources indicate that the red helmets were "awarded" to certain players for good performances, and I believe this is probably accurate, though I have not seen many photographs showing both helmet colors in use at the same time (I have seen some). As a helmet design used by less than half of the team, this design does not meet the current criteria for graphic representation at this web site (my concern being that there may be hundreds of such single-player or a few-players designs, particularly from the 1960s)."

What's the deal with the bird? Part of the 'Cardinal' color scheme? They couldn't just get a potato like TU got to make the mascot?

that's a great website. those 60's cyclone helmets look like something out of a generic football movie.

They got a little tired of playing dress-up like a KC Chief and have moved on to the retro Halloween attempt at trying to be the Washington Redskins.

While they're at it, why don't they swap out their bird for Peanuts' Woodstock with teeth?

ISU was originally the cardinals, hence the color scheme and the bird carrying over because a cyclone isn't very cuddly.

ah, I wasn't aware...

So what Big XII schools have had nickname changes...

ISU - Cardinals, Cyclones
Nebraska - Bugeaters, Cornhuskers (maybe something in between)
Kansas State - Aggies, Wildcats
OSU - Tigers, Aggies, Cowboys

...

What else?

They changed to the Cyclones in 1895. So most people probably aren't aware of the switch.

Well, that's what I read.

You can pick the ugliest design when you make two TV appearances all year.

The unis they wore last year weren't half bad considering what they had to work with, and they beat the snots out of the new design IMHO.

This definitely happened. My uncle has season tickets to ISU sports and i remember visiting the grandfolks and seeing programs with game action of players in both helmets at the same time
