bradford with another td to clapp. sounds like our qb's picked it up after a slow start.

i just wish one of the qb's would separate himself from the others. and not by default but by controlling the huddle and making the right decisions.

It rained from start to finish....terrible conditions.

I think Halzle played himself out of the race today. A couple bad looking balls and a couple bad decisions. He had a pick 6 and a couple more that should've been picked.

Between the other two, I've been more impressed with Nichol through all of the scrimmages. He's more athletic and just seems to have a higher ceiling in terms of potential.

But Bradford is more consistent. He seemed more sure of himself and the offense. He's not flashy but he doesn't make mistakes and he distributes the ball and gets it where it needs to be. We continue to run a lot of high percentage passes to the TEs and backs out of the backfield. We seem to be staying away from the more dangerous intermediate passing game across the middle of the field and when we're going to the WRs...its almost always something to the outside where we're taking advantage of our height.

Since the RW game, I've been more impressed with KN. Today, I really thought Bradford won the job.

But in the end...there's not a whole lot of difference between the two. The game plan would be implemented by either of them at about the same success rate IMO. Murray is an absolute stud and we're loaded across the OL and in our other skill positions.

Hartley nailed a 57 yard FG and then followed it up by hitting a 61 yard FG. That brought everyone to their feet. Cohen punted extremely well. I don't think we'll face an opponent with a better kicking game than us in '07.

Save the absence of Allen Patrick, I think we're ready to roll.

I'm just happy that they're all playing well in the coaches' eyes. Like Kevin Wilson said... we could pick a starting QB, but what happens if he blows out a knee in the heat of the Texas game... we need them all. At this point, I'm still a bradford homer, but any one of OUr guys would satisfy me... I just want to blowout UNT and get Miami shaking in their stolen boots.

yeah, DM just makes people look stupid.

after watching his HS highlight video, I started to think maybe he had great stats because the level of his competition wasn't very good. So far, he's making our defenders look an awful lot like his HS competition.

If he's one-on-one with a defender in the open field....forget about it.

Just name Bradford the starter and let's move forward. Honestly, I think that is what everyone is most comfortable with and makes the most sense. I am so freaking excited about Bradford and Murray joining the offense this year...what a great couple of additions.

I think this year could be special if we leave Dallas unbeaten.

I agree, that is a big difference. I still think Nichol should play this year and then they can really battle it out next year.

schedule sets up about as good as you could expect with the pokes, ATM, and MU all in Norman--in a year they would be a tough roadie.

i just hope we don't see Bradford in 2001 swing pass from Hybl/let the D win it mode. hopefully having a running game will preclude that....but we were conservative to the point of pain at time last year as well.

Kevin Wilson says his style in no particular style in general... just whatever works, you go with it. If that means you rush for 174 yards in College Station on the same old shat every down... if it works, use it. Personally I'm a big fan of the pro-style offense that sets up the run and eventually opens up the passing game. The shotgun spread is too easy to read.

yeah, me too.

But I really think that Murray is going to allow us to do things that we weren't able to do in '01 or '06. That's not saying we won't play it conservative because I think we will....but we'll have more options on O this year and I think it'll have a lot to do with Murray.

I dont wanna jinx him or sound like too much like the homer that I am ;)....but because of Murray's versatility, he could be a more dangerous weapon than Adrian was.

Opposing D's can't just load up 8 in the box and brace themselves for the Peterson sledgehammer. We're doing a lot of different things with DM.....moving him in the flats and catching passes, screens, pitch-outs, off-tackle plays. There's nothing he can't do well. He didn't even miss on his pass blocking assignments that I saw.

He's got soft hands and his jukes remind me a lot of Reggie Bush (I know, I know...thats the most overused comparison on the planet...but he does). Its all in the hips. He can switch directions at full speed and it leaves defenders on the ground looking stupid. Today, he looked just like he looked in the spring game and just like he looks on his HS highlight videos. Its not an aberration. I don't know why USC wanted him as a DB....but I'm sure glad they did and he came to Norman.

It's not that the defense is bad. They looked solid when hitting/wrapping up/tackling all the other guys. Murray has put up video game numbers a couple times now on our D. If he doesn't get hurt, he's gonna do that to other defenses and we're gonna be good regardless of who is giving him the ball.

Looks like Bradford had a really good day. If he could consistently put up those kinds of percentages - that's good winning football.

better than last weekend.

the thing that just jumps out at you is how big we are. We're huge. SNP broke down our averages in another thread and compared us favorably with the Colts' OL in terms of size. Its easy to see that when you see Duke being dwarfed by PL.

Our pass protection is far and away improved compared to this point last year. Although I do worry a little about Loadholt. He's enormous and we're going to be fine in the run blocking department with him....but I'm worried that fast/skilled DEs could give him problems and our QBs still haven't faced a full on pass rush in live fire situations.

But I think we're gonna be able to open up holes wide enough for our slashers like AP and Brown....and I'm not at all worried about Murray.

If we stay injury free (especially Cooper -- I think he's underrated).....we'll be good up front.

** I'm giving some glowing reports, I know. But I'm much more confident tonight than I was a week ago. We looked good today. It's early and I really want AP back and at full strength, but today I though we had the most impressive all-around preseason performance since '04.

Octavian
8/18/2007, 11:07 PM
not saying that we're going to roll to the NCG like we did in '04 or '03 but --at this point, as a whole --we look better in the preseason than we did in either of the last two years.
