I just returned from an exciting afternoon of seeing a live performance of High School Musical with my niece. Don't laugh, it was a great Lyric Theatre production. I haven't seen that many pre-teens since Falls Creek though.

Mrs. VJ took my daughter and our two nieces to that Friday night in Ft. Lauderdale.

Is that something simultaneous going on every where?

Well, this was a local production as was the one in Florida, I am sure.

HSM was just on TV last year, but they released the rights for local companies to do it already. I think that's unusual for them to release the rights so quickly.

Plus, with it being summer, the kids have more time to work on the play. This production was all kids except for the two teachers.

Music Theater of Wichita was one of only 5 professional theaters that got the rights this early. MTW's production was better than the Disney movie, no joke.

I, too was very impressed by the show when I saw it in Orlando back in May. I'm usually not high on Disney's corny stuff, but I have to say this was indeed, cool.

The girl singing the lead is the same girl that starred as Dorothy last summer in Wizard of Oz, and she actually is in high school.

and she kicks ***.

my main complaint about the disney version (both high school musical and high school musical 2) is that I dont' think the kids are particularly great singers (excepting Zac Efron, who disney stupidly dubbed in the first one. Disney = tards) most of the singing sounds like it's been altered to death in order to sound good.

The Britney Spears effect, huh?

You don't think the Gabriella girl has good range?

What, in the movie? I think she sounds like she needed $25,000 worth of digital equipment to make her voice audible. The girl in Wichita had a voice strong enough she probably could have done the show live without amplification.

no kidding. I wasn't impressed by the girl in the movie (Vanessa Hudgens) at all. Especially not compared to Desi Oakley in Wichita.

I heard the brother of Ashley Tisdale in the movie (sorry, cant recall his name) is actually a pretty good singer, and might be on broadway.

Wait until you watch the second one. Four times in 24 hours. With a hip hop dancing 7 year-old and a squealing 4 year-old. It's pure romance.

My kids have all seen HSM2 3 or 4 times this weekend. I think my DVR is about to "accidentally" get erased.
