I've heard from a friend of mine that works for the police dept that the state will be looking for drunk drivers between now and labor day and will be setting up checkpoints; please find a designated driver so you can stay out of the slammer. Just an FYI for those headed to drunkytown.

I thought check points were illegal or unconstitutional. They can't do that in Texas, I believe.

She has really great control of her faculties for someone that had a pitcher of margaritas! However, I can vouch that she is totally blotto!!

I thought check points were illegal or unconstitutional. They can't do that in Texas, I believe.

I later found out they were stopping everyone driving down that particular sidewalk. And that's profilin'. which is wrong.

Well, of course. I certainly wouldn't advocate drink driving. Just commenting on the legal nature of checking. Which, btw, I think safety checkpoints aren't a bad idea, the state provides the priviledge of driving, the state can police it in any means it deems. I don't think all the privacy protections that are assumed are present when you are doing something that is a governmental priviledge - IMO.

it's not the drunk checkpoints that bother me, it's the seatbelt ones :mad:

and yeah, don't drink and drive dumbasses, checkpoints or not

if anything, i think the penalties are too lenient, and probably not enforced enough
