View Full Version : OU in defiance of NCAA sanctions?

Got my media guide in the mail today.Immediately noticed several items:

1)Bob Stoops' record is listed as 86-19

2) OU's record for 2005 is listed at 8-4

3) OU is listed as not only having played in the 2005 Holiday Bowl, but apparently they also won it .

Maybe it is JUST me but I thought OU was to change all school records to reflect recent NCAA sanctions. My personal opinion(which is also staed in my sig) is that THE NCAA can kiss my crimson a$$ if they think I'm changing OU's record or Bob's but can the school take that attitude?

Isn't your Athletic Director, Boren, challenging the ruling?

This review is taking even longer than the one in Oregon for you folks last year..

(and will undoubtedly turn out the same)

Shouldn't you be calling the Austin jail to see if anyone there needs a "donors assistance?" ;)

our media guide will soon learn the errors of its ways and remember that we only played 4 games in 2005 and we lost all 4 of them. What a boring season that was, but it still was more memorable than any of Boo's seasons

Lid, only 16 minutes from the start of an "OU Sanction" thread before you rip on Boren? You must be slowing down in your old age.

Thank you having some principAls and leaving out the usual legal speech.

I'd really like for these changes to be held up for as long as possible.

Therefore, let's challenge the ruling.

It might do that, or it might result in the NCAA giving Oregon the ball.

I think the important question here is, what if we were to challenge the ruling? Would that hold the changes to the media guide up?

Seems there was a similar sanction given on the 1972 season. Kerry Jackson had been ruled ineligible, and OU had to "forfeit" games in which he played that year, including the 1972 Sugar Bowl. I remember seeing "official records" that included an asterisk explaining why certain games that year were forfeits.

Don't know if the recent sanction is identical to the 1972 sanction in that respect, but if so, I don't think it changed much as a practical matter. Most accounts of the 1972 season show the unofficial result, rather than the corrected, "official" result (that reflected the forfeits).

Ruling is being challenged. Probability of being held up is good.

Lid, would it be in violation of NCAA rules if you were to help one of Mack's boys out with some legal help and your $X00/hour was covered by a booster?

Think about it: at the rate they're going to jail, and considering the price of oil, this could turn into a thriving practice.

I only want my 5% finder's fee.

Yeah, but they didnt challenge it. I bet if they did, that would have put a hold on it.

DrZaius

That is an old story with most universities. When things like this happen the schools hardly ever change their records but the NCAA will change theirs. This is the same thing that happened with Michigan in Basketball when Chris Webber played.

The media guides had already been sent to the printers, so we have a one-year reprieve on having to remove the stats.

And, as previously mentioned, we are holding up the NCAA to provide a challenge, resulting in another 'poke first down.
