yeah, that was a sweet goal. it's good to have a sports icon that is genuine and cares about the game. some of the nfl'ers and nba'ers could learn a lesson or two from him.

i'm all for him being successful over here.

Wow...soccer fans? Moreso than in L.A. where only 17,000 showed up in a 27,000 seat stadium. The Beckham story will fade fast.

Is that why he didn't even travel with the team to Dallas?

Word! Man U tis teh AWESOME!

Oh, me lads,
You should have seen us coming,
Fastest team in the League,
Just to see us running,
All the lads and lasses,
With smiles upon their faces,
Walking down the Warwick Road,
To see Matt Busby's aces!

First of all, **** Man U. Secondly, I agree with Bill Simmons in that MLS will remain a sideshow as long as the best professional soccer in the world is being played outside the United States.

You must have watched Fox Football Fone-in too. :D I was surprised at the praise they heaped on him. But I agree and hope he succeeds because he really does seem to still care about the game and his team.
Landon Donovan's comments about giving him the captain's arm band were telling. He acted like a real captain and seems determined to get his team going right.
What showed me something about the guy was how he handled it when Real Madrid basically exiled him to the bench last year. He could have gone all Iverson and pouted and bitched all over the press. But he kept his mouth shut and actually WORKED his way back into a starting role.
According to people who seem to be acquainted with him, he's a genuinely good guy and definitely not milking his injury. He's a step in the right direction for LA, and the MLS, and American sports in general. He won't single-handedly raise the MLS to mass popularity, but if he raises the Galaxy from the dust heap, I will be impressed.

Beckham is above and beyond a professional. You never hear him bitching in the media, getting arrested, and he always signs autographs for fans, especially kids.

Athletes in other leagues could do far worse than take his lead in how to handle matters.

And that was a sweet goal.

Their all-time average attendance is a bit under 21,000 so they're not far off the mark.

they fill that place up pretty regularly. this was a superliga match and they weren't expecting too much out of beckham. and the galaxy sucks right now.
looks like the mls will allow teams another dp(won't count against the salary cap), if they can sign some more internationals that place will be ready to explode.

colorado has a spanking new stadium with a lame duck coach and a team that has given up. they still (only?) get around 14,000 in an 18,000 seater.

this league is in it's 11 year, not it's 50th. tradition will take time and they've done a tremendous job overall.

pretty decent crowd for a team that averaged 12,000.
