Paul Thompson played in his first NFL game today! The former-and-soon-to-be-cut Ingle Martin, third string QB, got a head hit so Paul got his chance yesterday (which they showed on the NFL network today)

Three handoffs to end the victory. I think he should be credited with the "save" like a closing pitcher :D

Larry Birdine, oh dear. After hitting a monstrous sack (so incredibly awesome that he knocked over the qb AND a teammate also trying to sack the poor Steeler qb-soon-to-be-cut... and the teammate's helmet off) he started gasping air. And then he took a few huffs and puffs again. And again...

The worst part is, the NFL Network shows this over and over. Are they trying to show that he's out of shape, or that it can get tiring in Pittsburg?

So, there you have it. Thompson continue to inspire. Birdine is a little inconsistent... still.

it shows two things.....The painkiller chugger needs to retire ;)

and Birdine's commitment to conditioning is just as bad as it was when he was here.

I know he had quite a few tackles, including one that he ran down from behind.

HOWEVER, the NFL Network broadcast kept cutting to him leaning over, once of him lying on the field like he was injured, and even such.

He doesn't look out of shape (for those types of guys, look on further than A&M's line on this year's NCAA Football), he just acted out of shape.

Oh, and everyone should tune in next week when PT12 (now PT10) will be slated to play the entire 4th quarter against Seattle at Lambeau Field.

WATCH IT! Why? Well, everyone know's AD's going to make the team and they're not going to play him excessively in the preseason. However, PT and Birdine actually have to play hard now before eminent cuts in the roster. Same goes for da bears. Wait till regular season to watch the Sooner stars that are guaranteed roster spots, unless you want to watch them smile on the sidelines.

Looks like Ingle Martin is on the Packers injury list (blow to the head?) from the pre-season game against Pittsburgh. Hopefully that will mean a few more snaps for Paul to really shine in the upcoming Seahawks game.

I was really pleased to read the article about Paul. While Paul was never one of OU's greatest quarterbacks, he was, in my opinion, one of their finest. I hope he makes it in the NFL. However, even if he doesn't I feel sure that he will always live a life of which we can be proud.

anyways, NormanPride and I watched da bears last night and saw Mark Clayton playing special teams. Tommy Harris wasn't suited up, but they interviewed him on the sidelines about Dusty's play (which we missed, because he played at the beginning). He said he did well in the middle and that he looked forward to the season because played with him in college and all.

And so the Sooner NFL injury curse continues....
Not all Sooners face bad luck in the NFL. Roy Williams is a stud! So is Tommie, so are several others.

However, if there is one curse that needs to continue, it is the MADDEN curse.

Here are ways that it shall play out:

1- Injury during preseason, misses entire regular season and playoffs.
2- Fight with teammate (ooo, off to a good start here!) followed by bad team chemistry, leads team to 4-12 record... and no playoffs.
3- Breaking of team rules (another good start here!) leads to suspension and unproductive year.
4- Off-field trouble (c'mon, act like your college teammates!) leads to arrest, jail time and being cut from roster.

While all options would assuredly be good for the rest of the NFL teams (especially the Packers, who need all the help they can get!), I think that #1 is the most likely option here. He will get fumbles mcscramble happy, try to create yardage when there is none to be found, and suffer the same fate as Michael Vick did when he was on the cover of Madden.

I can see his future already...

1- Season ending injury on Madden cover leads to...
2- Continued in-fighting with teammates ("I'm the star!") leads to in-fighting with coaches and administration on team, leads to...
3- Continued rule breaking ("Why should the star have to stay in the team hotel?") leads to...
4-Inevitable suspension and pay cuts (fines), which lead to...
5- Producing a rap album, which Mack Brown will download to his iPod, leading to...
6-Coming back to University of saxet to get more posse members, who mooch off his NFL money, leading to...
7-Arrest for off-field troubles.

And thus, the curse continues :D

As much as I think his enunciation skills are the worst, as a QB I think VY will do well this year. I'm actually happy to see him help people forget about that pathetic worthless dog killer who's about to see prison time.

Quote from Packers Coach

Mike McCarthy Postgame Press Conference Transcript - Aug. 18

http://www.packers.com/news/releases/2007/08/18/3/

(How did Paul Thompson do?)
In fairness to Paul I need to look at the film. I'm not making any excuses for him, but we didn't put him in a lot of favorable play selections. Trying to run the ball out of one-back, we were not productive at all running the football. He had some nice throws. The two interceptions didn't look good to anyone. Without seeing the film I don't want to be so critical. You can't turn the football over, especially where he turned the football over, down in the red zone.

"You can't turn the football over, especially where he turned the football over, down in the red zone." Unfortunately, that is usually the kiss of death, aka cut  .

Hopefully, McCarthy will see the upside potential of PT and keep him. I would like to see PT, in a GB uniform, playing against the Bears Sooners.

Well, people used to always say Bomar reminded them of Brett Favre... maybe there's a Big Cheese Sports and Imports in the Green Bay area.
It's called Bergstrom, and as a professional athlete, it's an ENDORSEMENT, not a scam.

He was in quite a few ads for them back in the late 90s. Here's a few that I remember.

(Brett Favre pretending to acknowledge huge Packer crowd)
Reporter (off camera, shoves mic in Favre's face): Was that the drive of the year?
Favre: (who is as good of an actor as he was in Something about Mary) Wow, that's tough...
(harp music, to him imagining something)
Favre: There was that (name of fancy car) at Bergstrom Automotive...
(show Favre walking around a fancy SUV)
Favre: Then there was that (name of other fancy car)
(show other fancy car)
Favre: The Lexus was pretty sweet...
(show Lexus)
Favre: Oh yeah, and then there was that (something) convertible!
Reporter: So Brett, was that the drive of the year?
Favre: (bad acting) Sorry, guys, I don't think so... Bergstrom. For the love of driving!

I only remember that because they played that ad over and over back then.

Oh, and after Super Bowl XXXI...

Voiceover: Brett Favre, you just won the Super Bowl!
Favre: I know where I'm going after the Super Bowl... Bergstrom Automotive!

Someday, Bomar is going to make it in the NFL, and he will do ads like this that parody his troubles at OU... or, he'll end up like Vick, either Marcus or Michael.

It might be, I'm not sure. All I am sure of is that they like to flood the airwaves with their ads and that Favre has been a longtime endorser (or at least he was when I lived up there through 2001).

Training Camp Report: Bowling Night Breaks Up Camp Schedule

by Mike Spofford, Packers.com
posted 08/13/2007

Head Coach Mike McCarthy surprised the players on Monday night, telling them they wouldn't have their regular evening meetings.

They were going bowling instead.

The announcement in the meeting room after dinner elicited some hoots and hollers, and shortly afterward the team piled into three buses and was off to the new Pro Bowl lanes in Howard, Wis., for what turned into a very competitive couple of hours of team-building.

"They were very physical at practice today, so I thought it was a good time to get away and build group dynamics," McCarthy said, as the trash-talking began before the actual bowling did. "These guys will compete for a buck, let alone a championship."

All the players and coaches were divided into 35 teams of three players each, and everyone bowled two games to determine two finalist squads. The trio of strength and conditioning assistant Mark Lovat, rookie tight end Clark Harris and linebacker A.J. Hawk finished their two games with an 851 total, or an average of 142 per man per game. The other top squad was cornerbacks coach Lionel Washington, tight end Bubba Franks and rookie quarterback Paul Thompson, who totaled 888, or a 148 average.

The championship match was bowled using the "Baker format," in which the three players on each team bowl one collective game - rotating one frame at a time through the first nine and then selecting which teammate should bowl the 10th.

With the rest of the squad gathered around and watching intently, Thompson and Washington gave their squad the early lead with strikes in the first two frames. But a similar double by Lovat and Harris in the seventh and eighth, combined with a spare-strike by Harris in the 10th, lifted their team to victory. The final score was 165-144 in favor of Lovat, Harris and Hawk.
The highest individual game of the evening was rolled by cornerback Jarrett Bush, with a 212.

That's what I was thinking, but the point of the later preseason games is to decide the final few roster spots. Nobody, except maybe Aaron Rodgers, wants to see Brett Favre getting hurt in a meaningless game. It wouldn't surprise me to see Ingle Martin and PT get the majority of the snaps.
