It's a word you seldom see or hear, anymore! Somehow, it evolved into "horrific"! How did that happen?

I use both horrible and horrific frequently. Which one I use is dependent upon how bad the situation is. For example, horrific would be much worse than horrible.

Terry Pratchett has a good bit on a similar subject in "Hogfather"

Horrible. The word is 'horrible'. 'Horrid' is a childish
word selected to impress nearby males with one's fragility.

On the golf course, I normally exclaim after a tee shot or put, "Well that was horrible."

I do not say "That chip shot was horrific."

Sometimes, I just say "I need another beer."

There's terrible, and then terrific. Since the two "terr" words are opposites, why aren't the "horr" words opposites?

Heh! VJ, spec for that need another beer.Some say you might sometimes be horrendous, however.
