The most "awesomely bad" movie in history. It is the standard by which all awesomely bad movies are judged. Finally out on DVD again!

But worse in an inherently entertaining and watchable way?

I...don't...think...so.

Zogi, the High Priest: Do you, Ming the Merciless, Ruler of the Universe, take this Earthling Dale Arden, to be your Empress of the Hour?
The Emperor Ming: Of the hour, yes.
Zogi, the High Priest: Do you promise to use her as you will?
The Emperor Ming: Certainly!
Zogi, the High Priest: Not to blast her into space?
[Ming glares at Zogi]
Zogi, the High Priest: Uh, until such time as you grow weary of her.
The Emperor Ming: I do.

I would think having music by Queen (Flash Gordon) and ACDC (Maximum Overdrive) would garner much speck.

Me too, that movie rulz.

the drive-in movie scene is an all-timer.

"attention, attention, ladies and gentlement...there's a herd of killer rabbits approaching the city.....WE NEED YOUR HELP! Are you with us?"

audience (in cars) start honking simultaneously in approval.

no one questions the idea of a herd of killer rabbits. if that's what it going down....it's a citizens automatic responsibility to counter-act a herd of killer rabbits by any means necessary. 'nuff said.

Sweet! It had been out of print on DVD here in The States for the past few years. I didn't want to pay premium for a used DVD, so I had culled it from my VHS stash for viewing. Good to see it back out on DVD. I'll have to pick it up.

Thanks for the links, brasky.

I've never seen it before but it's looks incredibly awesomely bad. I hope they find some way to work "Who wants to live forever" into the pregame video this year.

No question, there is a fine line between stupidity and greatness in these type of movies. Queen definitely pushed Flash Gordon over the top.

I love the dual effect of mirroring the 30's feel with cheesy effects and dialog with rock music.

I'll never forget seeing Flash in the theaters. My grandmother dropped my brother and I off at the theater and our options were Popeye with Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall or Flash Gordon. We chose wisely since Popeye was just plain crappy.

Anyone who can sit through the entire movie should get an award from the Masochist Society. I made it about 2/3 the way through, before I finally said to myself: "dayum, this is freakin' pathetic. I'm hitting the sack!"

Hmmm..."Awesomely bad" only qualifies if you can sit through it repeatedly. It has to be dumb, but have some quality that makes it watchable and entertaining.

There are far too many "unwatchably bad" movies to single out just one...

There are far too many "unwatchably bad" movies to single out just one...Lepus stands out because I believe anyone who's ever seen it can't forget it, even though it seems like just a dream of some kind.(and yes, even if you don't gut it through to the end)
Please don't be offended, Flash Gordon is a special movie. I think nobody here disagrees with that.
FWIW, "NIGHT OF THE LEPUS" is now selling for between $9-15 on eBay.

Also, why would a movie produced by Edward Reynolds be produced by Edward Wood?
